About this listen

The Metro books have put Dmitry Glukhovsky in the vanguard of Russian speculative fiction alongside the creator of Night Watch, Sergei Lukyanenko. A year after the events of Metro 2033, the last few survivors of the apocalypse, surrounded by mutants and monsters, face a terrifying new danger as they hang on for survival in the tunnels of the Moscow Metro. Featuring blistering action, vivid and tough characters, claustrophobic tension and dark satire, the Metro books have become bestsellers across Europe.

Great sequel to 2033

loved 2033, took a few hours to come around to this one, but was very much worthwhile.

the story teller is amazing, very fun.

but the book at times jumps from one person to another and the ending was confusing.

Not a direct sequel...

However still an amazing book loved every second of it I was sitting at the edge of my seat just waiting for what would come next.

probably not the best to have listened to this during the COVID-19 pandemic but great book investigating the human spirit.

Not nearly as good as 2033.

As a big fan of the games this series is based on and who enjoyed the first book, this one doesn't hold up nearly as well.

Like 2033, you've got to be prepared to listen to a LOT of detail and world building. That doesn't bother me but this one spends a lot of time on conversations between characters that ultimately feel redundant and don't contribute much. Unlike the games, which share the character from 2033 throughout, this book largely focuses on other characters and their own story, only they're not as interesting and a bit less believable.

This uses the same reader as 2033, who is great when he's just narrating in general but far less so when trying to act out individual characters, especially the female lead. I'd prefer he just stuck to standard narration.

I still love this universe and overall, I'm glad I listened to this but I hope 2035 is better.
