Story
Inti Flynn arrives in Scotland with her twin sister, Aggie, to lead a team of biologists tasked with reintroducing fourteen gray wolves into the remote Highlands. She hopes to heal not only the dying landscape, but Aggie, too, unmade by the terrible secrets that drove the sisters out of Alaska. Inti is not the woman she once was, either, changed by the harm she’s witnessed—inflicted by humans on both the wild and each other. Yet as the wolves surprise everyone by thriving, Inti begins to let her guard down, even opening herself up to the possibility of love.

Story
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

Story
Mary is a quiet middle-aged woman doing her best to blend into the background. Unremarkable. Invisible. Unknown even to herself. But lately, things have been changing inside Mary. Along with the hot flashes and body aches, she can’t look in a mirror without passing out, and the voices in her head have been urging her to do unspeakable things. Fired from her job in New York, she moves back to her hometown hoping to reconnect with her past and inner self. What she finds instead are visions of terrifying mutilated specters that come with increasing regularity.

Story
Melville Heights is one of the nicest neighborhoods in Bristol, England. It’s the sort of place where doctors and lawyers and old-money academics live. It’s not the sort of place where people get stabbed in the back 30 times with a kitchen knife in their own homes. Someone must have seen something. Newlywed Joey Mullen, for example, recently returned from four years of working in Ibiza. She and her husband, Alfie, are eager to find a place of their own in her hometown. But Joey finds herself distracted by the man next door, Tom Fitzwilliam.

Story
A strange plague called the "Gets" is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget - small things at first, like where they left their keys... then the not-so-small things like how to drive, or the letters of the alphabet. Then their bodies forget how to function involuntarily - and there is no cure. But now, far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, deep in the Marianas Trench, an heretofore unknown substance hailed as "ambrosia" has been discovered - a universal healer, from initial reports.

Franny Stone has always been the kind of woman who is able to love but unable to stay. Leaving behind everything but her research gear, she arrives in Greenland with a singular purpose: to follow the last Arctic terns in the world on what might be their final migration to Antarctica. Franny talks her way onto a fishing boat, and she and the crew set sail, traveling ever further from shore and safety. But as Franny’s history begins to unspool - a passionate love affair, an absent family, a devastating crime - it becomes clear that she is chasing more than just the birds. When Franny's dark secrets catch up with her, how much is she willing to risk for one more chance at redemption?
Epic and intimate, heartbreaking and galvanizing, Charlotte McConaghy's Migrations is an ode to a disappearing world and a breathtaking pause resister about the possibility of hope against all odds.
A Macmillan Audio production from Flatiron Books
"Migrations is a nervy and well-crafted novel, one that lingers long after its voyage is over. It’s a story about our mingling sorrows, both personal and global, and the survivor’s guilt that will be left in their wake." (New York Times Book Review)
"True and affecting, elegiac and imminent.... The fractured timeline fills each chapter with suspense and surprises, parceled out so tantalizingly that it took disciplined willpower to keep from skipping down each page to see what happens.... Ultimately hopeful." (The Washington Post)
“Thrilling.... In piecing together who this mysterious protagonist really is, McConaghy creates a detailed portrait of a woman on the cusp of collapse, consumed with a world that is every bit as broken as she is.” (Time)
What the critics say
"Gutting and gorgeous, Migrations is an astounding meditation on love, trauma, and the cost of survival. With soulful prose and deep empathy, Charlotte McConaghy weaves parallel stories of a woman and a world on the brink of devastation, but never without hope. Equal parts love letter and dirge, this is a true force of a book that I read holding my breath from its start to its symphonic finish." (Julia Fine, author of What Should Be Wild)
"Few books have so completely enveloped me into the character’s life (and entwining with mine as well) as Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy. Reminiscent of Annie Proulx’s honest and raw words, this story is poetic and melancholic, with bursts of insight." (Michelle Bear, Edmonds Bookshop, Edmonds, WA)
"Migrations is a wonder. I read it in a gasp. There is hope in these pages; a balm for these troubled times. Charlotte McConaghy's words cut through to the bone." (Lara Prescott, New York Times best-selling author of The Secrets We Kept)

Really good
This is the second book I’ve read by this author. I finished Once There Were Wolves which I found slow to start but then I couldn’t stop listening and the ending was so touching. I immediately bought this title afterwards and it’s the same kind of thing. Slow to start but engaging enough that I wanted to keep going and then a really touching ending that makes me want to read more books by this author. The way she communicates the problems that humans are causing to the rest of nature is really excellent and chilling but there is a hopefulness somewhere within the message too. I would really recommend these books

Fascinating and Frightful
I loved the contemporary topic of climate change and the effect on birds and our world in general. Inter played with characters that are vivid and each has a backstory that is eventually told. Story line that twists and turns until the “bitter and bright end”

WOW
Best book I've listened to in a long time. I was in tears and filled with joy more times than I can count. The world in this book is so uncannily similar to our own that it's frightening and really makes you think. So much love for the narrator as well and her different accents for different characters.

Book of its time
This book should be required reading for everyone on the planet. As it unfolds in the book It is starting to unfold here and now unless we all, together make a desperate effort to meet the challenge of saving this one habitable world in our harsh and unforgiving Gallaxy. If we blow it, sentient hominids may never come this way again. Indeed 95% of all species on this beautiful, blue ball will perish never to be seen again.
This book is not only a cautionary tale of the perils of Catastrophic Abrupt Climate Change, but also a great adventure and an interesting and delicate study of human nature, love, tenacity and survival of not just humans but other species as welll. The characters are well developed and some are even loveable. a good and satisfying ending that will stay with you for awhile and even offer some possibilities of hope for us all..
