Publisher's Summary

Meditation: It's not just a way to relax, or to deal with life's problems. Done correctly, it can be a way to radically encounter bliss and to begin - and sustain - real transformation in ourselves.

In Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond, self-described meditation junkie Ajahn Brahm shares his knowledge and experience of the jhanas - a core part of the Buddha's original meditation teaching. Never before has this material been approached in such an empowering way, by a teacher of such authority and popularity.

Full of surprises, delightfully goofy humor, and entertaining stories that inspire, instruct, and illuminate, Mindfulness, Bliss, and Beyond will encourage those new to meditation, and give a shot in the arm to more experienced practitioners as well.

Has good points

I feel like it could be paired down but I would prefer points that I should be learning to be repeated such that it sinks into my brain.

This mindfulness handbook is the one you need for meditation if you follow Theravada Buddhism especially.

Learn what Mindfulness meditation as it is

Ajahn Brahm is well known for his engaging and humorous style in teaching Buddhism to the world through YouTube, but this manual brings out his specialty- meditation. Highly recommended for those wanting to understand meditation from the ground up from someone who has been meditating since he was a teen (he is 70 now), and trained in the Thai Forest Tradition under Ajahn Chah since ordaining as a Buddhist monk at 23.

I only wish the recording team and narrator spent some time researching how to pronounce the Pali words (language of the Buddhist texts) used in the book. It was glaringly obvious they didn’t, and I winced every-time they mentioned certain crucial words….

a good attempt to replicate his master...

I just happened to read the book by Ajahn Chah, who was ajahn brahms master, literally right before i started this book. I had no prior knowledge that these two authors were connected in any way. It is clear, however, after only the first few pages, that ajahn chah was a yogi, while brahm is a western practitioner. i found ajahn chahs book full of excellent wisdom, while this book had only a few interesting stories or bits of wisdom. Personally I found it very subjective and wordy and not really all that helpful.
