About this listen
Miss Georgiana Darcy is need of a companion, and she would much rather not have Mrs. Younge. The recently bereaved Miss Elizabeth Bennet is in need of a position. When she accepts the one Mr. Darcy offers, she finds herself in his near-constant company and gets to know him at his best. Not as he would present himself to strangers in some remote corner of Hertfordshire, but as his nearest and dearest know him. An excellent brother, landlord, master. A wonderful man, noble, kind and impossibly handsome. So who falls in love first? What of Mr. Wickham and his dastardly ploys? And how is a lady's companion ever to have a future with one who could marry into the best houses in the land?

Very enjoyable, some angst
The narrator is excellent.
In terms of the story, I enjoyed it. The plot has been done before - Elizabeth ends up employed by Darcy - but the way Georgiana is depicted and some of the original characters add something different to the story. I liked the moment of crisis for Elizabeth and Darcy (the “Hunsford-like” moment). There were times when I wished Elizabeth showed more of the spunk typically associated with her character and I needed a stronger reason for her to stay employed as a companion after Jane and Bingley’s marriage. It seemed off to me that Bingley would be willing to let one of his new sisters stay in such a position (and in the house of his dear friend). It’s not as though he isn’t rich enough to support Elizabeth along with the other Bennets.
Despite those quibbles, it is absolutely worth a listen if you enjoy Jane Austen variations. This was my first book by Joana Stames and it won’t be my last.

Enjoyable P&P variation
This P&P variation is well written, and enhanced by the narrator. This was my first exposure to P&P variations / JAFF, and it was a good choice - I enjoyed it so much I now have another couple also by the same Joana Starnes / Stevie Zimmerman duo, and can recommend them all.
