About this listen

A SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY AARON SORKIN, AND STARRING JESSICA CHASTAIN, IDRIS ELBA, KEVIN COSTNER AND MICHAEL CERA

The true story of the 26-year-old woman behind the most exclusive, high-stakes underground poker game in the world

When Molly Bloom was a little girl in a small Colorado town, she dreamed of a life without rules and limits, a life where she didn’t have to measure up to anyone or anything – where she could become whatever she wanted.

She ultimately got more than she ever could have bargained for.

In Molly’s Game, she takes you through her adventures running an exclusive private poker game catering to Hollywood royalty like Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck, athletes, billionaires, politicians and financial titans. With rich detail, Molly describes a world of glamour, privilege and secrecy in which she made millions, lived the high life and fearlessly took on the Russian and Italian mobs – until she met the
one adversary she could not outsmart: the United
States government.

What the critics say

‘It isn't often you come across a story that is both cool and has a lot of heart, and this one does’ Aaron Sorkin

‘Dishes on the covert world of underground gambling and reveals how celebs and billionaires really behave on their downtime behind closed doors’ New York Post

‘I'm reading Molly Bloom's almost unbelievable memoir of her days running one of the world's most exclusive poker games. The amounts of money are obscene, the stakes are high, the characters are slime balls… and it's all true’ The Pool

Incredible Story #Audible1

Compared to the film (which I also love) the book really brings Molly alive, not just all poker and her game. If you are looking for a thriller that you know happened, with all that Hollywood glitz and glam and a touch of the poker underworld, this is your book! #Audible1

Very gripping story, couldnt stop listening to it!

I loved this book! It was a great story and Molly Bloom did an amazing job of telling it. It really draws the curtain on what happens behind the scenes in the hollywood world and a lot of it is shocking.

Cassandra did a wonderful job narrating and has a wide variety of voices which she puts to good use. The only thing i didn't like is the ending felt a bit rushed and you don't get the closure you were desiring. Despite that I would still say give it a read you will still enjoy it.

Interesting insight in to how situations develop

This review is of the audio book version of this novel. As an audio book it gets 4.5 stars for presentation, good presentation and interesting story. As a book it's a solid 4.

I liked this story in that it was well documented and the writing style is very fluid. The story was well told and engaging.

The outlining of how Molly fell in to being the ring leader of some of the largest poker games in the US is quite compelling in it's simplicity. By that I mean she showed through perseverance and hard work in the face of situations that are less than ideal but have potential for large rewards can work out.

Molly worked at her game and it grew. When she had people trying to take it away from her she fought back, she didn't give up, and she again persevered. It wasn't until the end when it all came crashing in on her that you could see where her inexperience and blindness to certain situations lead to her downfall.

I would recommend this audio book, and novel, as a good listen, or read, on a long flight or drive. The story takes you in to the world of high stakes underground poker games, not amongst pros but people with money, and how someone who gets a shot at leading it can take the right steps to doing so then through inexperience in that world lose it all.
