About this listen

A noted neuroscientist reveals groundbreaking research on how fitness and exercise can combat mental health conditions such as anxiety, dementia, ADHD, and depression, and offers a plan for improving focus, creativity, and sleep.

Jennifer Heisz shares paradigm-shifting research on how exercise affects the brain, finding that intervals of intense workouts, or even leisurely walks, help stop depression and dementia, lessen anxiety and ADHD, and encourage better sleep, creativity, and resilience. Physical inactivity is the greatest risk factor contributing to dementia and anxiety—it’s as much a factor as genetics. In addition, exercise’s anti-inflammatory properties make it the most effective treatment strategy for those who are depressed and don’t respond to anti-depressants. The book focuses on overcoming inertia; using exercise to help fight addictions; how we can improve our memory with fitness even as we age; and, importantly, how exercise can help us sleep better, improve focus, and be more creative. Included are easy to use plans for unique aerobic and resistance workouts designed to strengthen the brain.

Great info and well told

If this isn’t enough to get a person exercising, I don’t know what will! Interesting and well presented research. We all “know” that exercise is essential, but the research definitely makes the “why” more compelling. I wish this was required reading in schools - for educators and students!

The one-star reviewers are wrong

This audiobook has completely changed the way I view and understand exercise. Cannot recommend this audiobook enough. The best purchase I’ve made so far this year.

Gave me the inspiration that I needed!

This book helped me finally understand exercise. Having had bariatric surgery and losing a bunch of weight, I needed a way to move my new body. I'm a total beginner, and the author eased me into the idea of tackling what I felt to be a huge roadblock in my life.

Great for keeping committed

This, for me, was one of those books where I thought I knew a lot of was going to be told. And the basics I did, movement = good for brain. But the anecdotes, stories, metaphors, and easy to understand scientific explanations further expanded my understanding (and excitement) for movement to fix my anxiety. 7 days in of just walking, and just listening to this book has changed my mood, outlook, and understanding of my overactive brain.

I recommend!

It's Just a lot of badly written Pseudoscience

It's Just a lot of badly written Pseudoscience.

Also, It's just common sense that being physical active is good for both the body and the mind!
You don't need a PhD or a book to tell you that.

Condescending

Wow. Nope. Either it’s written for the most basic adult or a six year old. Even the narrator is condescending.
