About this listen
The cozy comforts of an English village bookstore open up a world of new possibilities for Evie Starling in this charming new romantic comedy from New York Times best-selling author Samantha Young.
At 33 years old, Evangeline Starling's life in Chicago is missing that special something. And when she's passed over for promotion at work, Evie realizes she needs to make a change. Some time away to regain perspective might be just the thing. In a burst of impulsivity, she plans a holiday in a quaint English village. The holiday package comes with a temporary position at Much Ado About Books, the bookstore located beneath her rental apartment. There's no better dream vacation for the bookish Evie, a life-long Shakespeare lover.
Not only is Evie swept up in running the delightful store as soon as she arrives, she's drawn into the lives, loves, and drama of the friendly villagers. Including Roane Robson, the charismatic and sexy farmer who tempts Evie every day with his friendly flirtations. Evie is determined to keep him at bay because a holiday romance can only end in heartbreak, right? But Evie can't deny their connection and longs to trust in her handsome farmer that their whirlwind romance could turn in to the forever kind of love.

Mark Chan this. Mark Chan that. Writer and barista Emily Hung is tired of hearing about the great Mark Chan, the son of her parents’ friends. You’d think he single-handedly stopped climate change and ended child poverty from the way her mother raves about him. But in reality, he’s just a boring, sweater-vest-wearing engineer, and when they’re forced together at Emily’s sister’s wedding, it’s obvious he thinks he’s too good for her. But now that Emily is her family’s last single daughter, her mother is fixated on getting her married and she has her sights on Mark.

The only problem is, with every second we draw closer to the wedding, I'm starting to see my best girl in a different light. She's always been beautiful to me, but now . . . A delight to read
I REALLY enjoyed this book. It light and sweet and good for the heart.
I admit that the British accents are quite terrible and I completely understand how someone native to the UK would cringe but as a Canadian it was tolerable l, especially because the story was so enjoyable.

I give this book 5 stars because the attraction between the characters was romantically steamy and built up perfectly. The bedroom scenes were intimate without being pornopraghic. The perfect balance for me! Lastly, the characters were flawed and likeable. I found myself wanting to know what happens with some of the secondary characters in the book too. Hopefully there will be a book about Carol next!

The story was really a very cute, light read. I wish they had used different voice actors for the different characters. To be honest I found myself getting thoroughly annoyed with the cheesy accents and almost didn’t finish the book.
