About this listen

Charlotte Holmes, Lady Sherlock, investigates a puzzling new murder case that implicates Scotland Yard inspector Robert Treadles in the USA Today best-selling series set in Victorian England.

Inspector Treadles, Charlotte Holmes’ friend and collaborator, has been found locked in a room with two dead men, both of whom worked with his wife at the great manufacturing enterprise she has recently inherited.

Rumors fly. Had Inspector Treadles killed the men because they had opposed his wife’s initiatives at every turn? Had he killed in a fit of jealous rage because he suspected Mrs. Treadles of harboring deeper feelings for one of the men? To make matters worse, he refuses to speak on his own behalf, despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

Charlotte finds herself in a case strewn with lies and secrets. But which lies are to cover up small sins, and which secrets would flay open a past better left forgotten? Not to mention, how can she concentrate on these murders when Lord Ingram, her oldest friend and sometime lover, at last dangles before her the one thing she has always wanted?

…if you’ve made it to book 5…

I think it goes without needing to write it, if you’ve made it this far in the series-you know it’s incredible! Book 5 does not disappoint!

Another great mystery.

The characters are well crafted and engaging with distinctive personalities complete with strengths and foibles. The mysteries complex, with subtle intriguing clues, numerous viable suspects, danger, and suspense, keeping you engaged throughout. The addition of romance, family drama add greatly to the fullness of the story. The setting comes alive with the great narrative. I can hardly wait for the next book in this wonderful series.

The performance was wonderful.

Another great instalment in the Charlotte Holmes series

I love this series! The conceit behind Charlotte Holmes pretending to be an assistant to her fictional brother is well crafted and her deductive skills continue the Holmesian tradition. Supported by a great cast of supporting characters, intricate plots and humour (maximum tolerable chins) these mysteries have quickly become favourites.

Another fun listen. Once again more romance than I would have liked but a really good book.

Superb fun

This one so far is my favourite. I read this twice back to back because I was interrupted the first time around yet I felt it was so good I know I will come back to this one. Very well sculpted and I really like the frustration of trying to get it right. Even My husband likes this series yet he finds Sherlock the real one a pain in thee arse lol.
i think he is too self-absorbed and arrogant. Whereas Sherry Thomas adds the weird and lovely way she and Lord Ingram find themselves. It is a great reprieve. One of the many ways
I think the narrator enlivens these books too. I hope she remains throughout the series.
it even makes my hubby laugh is Knowing that history for us women in Victorian time {not a loyalist} and this being the absolute naughty experience.
Let us face it during Queen Victoria's reign god awfulness for women, she was queen ruling an empire but she said women should be kept from employment and yet factories were killing us. Think Match stick girls! It doesn't seem to have translated to the poor as if everyone was well off or the pampered entitled think servants they were considered loose women but you don't say no because you're fired but, up the duff, you definitely are tossed out.

This book touches more on a woman's place in the world during this pitiful era. Well, honestly I would love her to touch on how women only now can go to school and post-secondary. Well especially in France little ahead of England back then... If not now. France has a great amount of English ex-pats.

Impeccable!

Beautiful writing. I loved the careful dichotomy of Charlotte’s analytical mind and Lord Ingram’s romantic. The characters all have their charm. The story is calculated so well to created suspense and intrigue that demands careful attention to every detail you wouldn’t want to miss. And Kate Reading is an absolutely masterful actor. Thank you so much for this experience!
