  • Summary

  • Are our parents really who we think they are?

Drummer with The Police, Stewart Copeland, sets out to uncover the truth about his father, Miles Axe Copeland ll - musician, raconteur, international businessman... and, it turns out, secret CIA operative.

Going back to the 1940s to trace his father's involvement in the birth of the CIA, Stewart enters a murky world of dictators and dirty tricks. He learns about his dad's role in overthrowing governments, assassination plots, and befriending an infamous Soviet double agent.

Helped by his brother and sister, and those who knew his dad's world of politics and espionage, Stewart investigates the impact his spy father had, both on their family and on the world.

Absolutely fascinating!

Who'd have thought it?! What a fascinating story! Your upbringing sounds divine. So many people never leave their own province/state. How lucky you were. The big surprise connected to your friend, Harry, is shocking, and leads to many questions about how families of spies are affected. And the bigger picture, many years on, was it right? Well done! Congratulations! Thank you to your dad for his service, to your brother for his service, and to your mother and all of you for your sacrifices.

Engaging and personable

Copeland adeptly weaves a tail of discovery about his father’s role in international affairs and reflection about his own views of the work he did and the potential impact of deception on his personal relationships.

a very entertaining listen

I love the bother and sister banter that permeates the interesting stories and recounts of their father's legacy.

Masturbatory and nationalistic

Copeland talks about himself the whole time, and appears to think the US saved the Middle East from itself.

terrible

terrible podcast. It is a total misdirect, the title is very misleading. The author simply talks about music and his childhood non-stop. Nothing about espinoage.
