About this listen
Myles is shocked when he sees his best friend Cait. The woman before him wearing a fancy dress and white gloves is not his Cait. What happened to his buddy who fished, hunted, raced horses, and wrestled? He can hardly stand to see the new Cait. He yearns for the girl who rides horses while standing on their backs.
Cait knew Myles would be shocked when she came home from finishing school. His outright rejection hurts deeply. Inside she is still the same, isn't she? His constant scowling and then avoidance undermine her confidence and bruise her spirit. He was her best friend.
Cait's mother arranges a marriage between a high-society gentleman from Boston, Mr. Hawthorne, and Cait. Mr. Hawthorne expects Caitlyn to be seen and not heard--a perfect wife for a politician.
Mr. Hawthorne plans to become mayor of the small western town, Langford. He promises to grow the town with investors from Boston. No one in the town wants investors to come and grow Langford by building their own businesses including a grand hotel. He brings gunslingers to town to protect him.
Myles has had enough and decides to run for mayor.
Cait runs away and ends up working at an orphanage, where she falls in love with a three-month-old baby. She persuades Myles to marry her only to be able to adopt the child. Unfortunately, the infant was already promised to another couple.
