About this listen

Many people live with, work with, and interact with narcissists on a daily basis. They may be your coworker, your mother, your daughter, your sister-in-law, or your boss. Narcissists are self-centric, rude, and lacking in empathy for others. They have a tendency to lie, steal, cheat, and hurt other people. Sometimes this is intentional on the part of the narcissist, and other times it is due to his brain wiring and immature emotions.

Narcissistic traits are often passed down from one generation to the next. Narcissism can pervade an entire family lineage. The truth of the matter is that just one narcissistic injury can lead a mother or father to injuring many generations of children and grandchildren that come after him or her. Neither generation heals before they bear more children, and thus the cycle of abuse continues from one generation to the next, often poisoning an entire family lineage over time.

Narcissistic traits don't have to come from full-fledged narcissistic personality disorder. Narcissistic traits can be linked to many mental health disorders, psychological complexes and personality disorders. Society believes that an internal state of being is not conducive to living in a society, and thus inwardness is seen as unhealthy by most. Task-orientation and object-orientation is also seen as unhealthy on some levels, because empathy helps us to see why our skills and actions are necessary for the betterment of all people, not just for the betterment of ourselves.

In this book, we will discuss the family unit in more depth as it pertains to narcissism. We will talk about the narcissistic mother, the narcissistic father, and the narcissistic children. We will discuss what happens when narcissists become grandparents. We will cover how the narcissist came to be and why the narcissistic injury is passed down from one generation to the next.
