Publisher's Summary

Neo Babylon's neural implants are iconic—and are now implicated in a mass murder that threatens the foundation of the city.

Detective Nick Waite finds himself struggling with the case. He's spent his entire life without a neural implant, excluded from the Altnet, and now needs to investigate a crime steeped in it.

Nick will need to rely heavily on his subordinates, the city's elite police Archangels. Unfortunately, the deployment of the new prototype, Ezekiel, is threatening to cause a schism in their ranks if he doesn't intervene.

Tensions rise almost by the hour while he investigates. Babylon's corporate overlords are at each other's throats while its people stage virtual protests. If the tensions boil over before Nick identifies the culprit, the city's dark history might repeat itself.

More of the same.

This book is great, and I like it. The only problem is that despite her obvious talent, Stephanie Savanah's performance is clearly showing its limits as many of the characters feel far too similar in tone of voice. This book made me consider how much better the audiobook could have been if this was a dramatized series. Not knocking Stephanie's ability, but she is only human. Several scenes felt awkward because her voice as just too similar between characters. I can't wait for the fourth entry into this series, but I just hope Stephanie can do something about her range of voice. There's plenty of options to deliver a quality audiobook, but even if we get more of the same, I'll consider buying because K.D is a talented writer.
