Not what I expected.
I was attracted to the book after watching the movie. The book was depressing and darker than I expected. For that reason I don't see myself continuing the series.

Disappointed
I really enjoyed the narration I think it was done very well the book itself well I have to say it became a little confusing at the very end, not sure what direction they were heading. it was just messy at the end that's all I can say and a very blunt ending that took on little nomeaning. the build-up was so much of it then bang that was the end????

Not as good as the first book.
I’d recommend this book. Nothing is predictable but. Would’ve like a little more consistency regarding the FMC’s power.

The kids had a major growth spurt
I definitely felt how the trauma of the characters lives forced them to grow up very fast in this book. They've gone from innocent children to hardened adults. This book is just as action packed as the first, but much harsher, a little more hard-core, and violent than the first. I noticed the language got a lot fouler in this book compared to the first. Still, I couldn't put it down, and purchased the next book in the series immediately after finishing. I like the writing style, it is fast paced and full of action, it keeps you hooked in all the way through to the very last sentence. The narration is good in the sense that you can tell the characters apart, and she speaks clearly, with proper enunciation. If I have one complaint, it's a minor one, in this book and in the first, I found the accents to be a bit cartoony, but in my experience, accents are difficult, so I'm still impressed she gave it a shot, and committed to them throughout. Definitely one of my top 3 favorite series that I've listened to this year.

Amazing narrator!
Amy McFadden just may be the best audiobook narrator I've listened to! She adds so much emotion to her voice that it had me sobbing by the end of this book.
