About this listen
Welcome to the first Haunted Guest House mystery - the getaway every reader can afford.
Newly divorced Alison Kerby wants a second chance for herself and her nine-year-old daughter. She's returned to her hometown on the Jersey Shore to transform a Victorian fixer-upper into a charming-and profitable guest house. One small problem: the house is haunted, and the two ghosts insist Alison must find out who killed them.

Hail the Haunted Guesthouse
I love these books, and the Narrator adds all the verbal-‘spice’ to each wonderful Character — that perfectly-suits what the Author has written!
(Allison is My favourite, because I love her sense of humour; more-apparent in the following-books of this series.)
Congratulations to Both Author and Narrator; Together, You’ve created a delightful-experience for young (and older) enthusiasts of the ‘Cozy Mystery’-genre!

Can't stop listening !
This has been such a delight to listen! An audio book is only as good as the narrator and I can say mission accomplished! The story is beautifully quirky, the characters really fun to follow and I absolutely love Alison, Melissa, and the ghosts! 🥰

Cozy & supernatural
I like the way so many familiar tropes and conventions of the genre are ever so slightly shifted. The female lead is wry rather than outright saucy, and she shows good judgment rather than seemingly to witlessly fall into trouble that the rest of us saw coming. I'll be getting the next one in the series.

Interesting idea but unlikeable surface level characters
I found the main character annoying and her motivations unrealistic. She is overly sarcastic, to the point where every other comment sounds like a one liner. The concept behind the story wasn’t bad and it did have decent structure.

Easy Listening and Sorta Believable
I enjoyed this. It rolls along somewhat smoothly, the characters are interesting and fleshed out, but it lacks..... something.
I wasn't expecting blockbuster status when I purchased this, I was looking for what I always look for in a cozy, the fluff factor of easy to 'read' (listen) narrators with a fairly plausible storyline. Despite the ghosts, this one was all that.
I'll agree with another reviewers complaint of it being a bit too neat and tidy finish and the MC is a bit whiny about money then gives away a fortune that she could have benefitted from, but otherwise this was a great read.

Fun listen.
Not overly intense or rich in characters, but never the less it’s a fun little book. Reminds me of the tv series ghosts.

Aimed at Children?
In general, I am usually interested in Mystery-Thrillers dealing with more Adult themes - but very much appreciate the entertainment focus delivered by "Cozy" Mysteries. The avoidance of sex, gore, expletives, and even violence - coupled with an easy-going refusal to take themselves too seriously - is refreshing.
This book attains that goal: providing a laid-back enjoyable distraction. As this genre goes, however, 'Night Of The Living Deed' comes across as distinctly sophomoric.
The protagonist - divorcee Alison - is 2-dimensional and overly sarcastic, her daughter - 9-year-old Melissa ("Liss") - cartoonishly veers between sweet & moody, and the ghosts - P.I. 'Paul' & surly houseflipper 'Maxie' - are "Scooby-doo" stereotypical caricatures.
E.J. Cooperman's writing is capable enough, his pacing is decent, and the plot is passably twisty - but he doesn't deliver a very challenging read.
Fortunately for audiobook fans, Amanda Ronconi's reading of the book is fantastic. Besides spot-on diction, timbre, cadence, and pacing, Ronconi reads with a lighthearted tone that shows she understands the author's intentions perfectly. Additionally, her voice-acting - a little silly at times - matches the silly impressions I get from character dialogue (as though she took them directly out of my mind).
I actually can't imagine a reader doing a better job with what Cooperman provides.. Ronconi was a brilliant casting choice from Audible Studios Inc.
This diverting 4/10 star story would be ideal for a drive to Grandma's house with preteens. Even for adult listeners it would be an acceptable option, I suppose
..IF you can get it as a 'Plus' selection.
Should Audible ask for a Credit, spend it on something else.
