About this listen

From number-one New York Times best-selling author Fern Michaels comes a brand-new novel that blends her rich, character-driven storytelling with a hint of suspense, as a reclusive young woman struggles to piece her life back together....

Ellie Bowman barely remembers the incident that put her into a coma. When she awoke, filled with unease, all she knew for certain was that her boyfriend, Rick, was missing. She knew she needed to get away from her old life and recover in safety. With the proceeds of a video game she helped develop, Ellie starts over in rural Missouri, working from her cottage and trusting no one except her friend and business partner.

Yet even in this quiet small town, it’s impossible to completely isolate herself. Especially when a curious eight-year-old boy, smitten with Ellie’s pup, stops by every day to talk to him over the fence. Little by little, Ellie is being drawn back into the world through the neighbors and community around her, realizing that everyone has their own fears and obstacles to contend with.

But when Ellie hears that Rick has resurfaced, her nightmares return, and with them, small snippets of memory. No one has heard from Rick since before the incident, so why is he back now? Ellie wants to move forward with her life, but first she must find the courage to look into her past, no matter what she finds there....

Easy listen, simplistic story, slow moving

Unrealistic and naive description of domestic violence and alcoholism. And the central so-called ‘mystery’ is unrealistic and ridiculous. You really want us to believe someone wakes up in hospital and not even ask how she got there & where she was found?
The writing style is not bad - except that the author was probably paid per word, and thus fills pages and pages by writing too much unnecessary detail. e.g. minute descriptions of how the old man opens his car door, gets in, looks in the mirror, puts it in gear, slowly backs out, turns left… now normally that kind of precise description is used to build tension, something is about to happen right? Why else give us this tension building detail? But no, the old guy just goes to the shops.

Great up to the end..

So I really enjoyed this story. I was fully involved.. but it feels like the story was abruptly cut off and and epilogue was slapped in to wrap up the loose ends. There seemed to be more story to be told. Just a rushed ending.. but still the story was great.

the person reading it has no range or emotion. Very dull to listen to, made a boring store that much worse

Rushed Ending

This book starts with a focus on a recluse IT support admin but focuses primarily on the DV incident that happened to her neighbour.

You are left with little resolution to the book, you never really find out what happened to the "main character", their antagonist's story has so much potential and detail that just fizzles by the end. And the ending is abrupt... with an epilogue to tidy up the disaster of loose ends.

A clean and wholesome story!

No Way Out, written by Fern Michaels and narrated by Susan Bennett, is a clean and wholesome story about a neighbourhood of people who all have problems they are grappling with. They have room in their hearts for redemption and work together to help others get there. Some of the neighbours have very mysterious backgrounds but are accepted anyway, and when those mysteries are resolved, it makes for an even bigger neighbourhood with heart. If you like redemption and happy endings in a clean and wholesome story, this book is for you!

Nope

Definitely not my cup of tea. Too much time was spent on inconsequential dialogue. It also seemed like the author was trying to weave teachable moments into the story. The plot was very basic and the ending was horrible. I can’t believe I actually listened to the whole thing.

Disappointed,

Good story until the very rushed
overly nice and unbelievable ending ruined the experience for me.

Not good, borderline terrible

Feels like a Hallmark Christmas tale where everyone ends up happy and smiley. The story was all over the place and had a ridiculous ending. Just not my kind of story.
