Publisher's Summary
"A sucker punch to the senses...a killer story with real heart and soul." (Alastair Reynolds)
When a young man's planet is destroyed, he sets out on a single-minded quest for revenge across the galaxy in Nophek Gloss, the first book in this epic space-opera trilogy debut - perfect for fans of Revenger and Children of Time.
Caiden's planet is destroyed. His family gone. And, his only hope for survival is a crew of misfit aliens and a mysterious ship that seems to have a soul and a universe of its own. Together they will show him that the universe is much bigger, much more advanced, and much more mysterious than Caiden had ever imagined. But the universe hides dangers as well, and soon Caiden has his own plans.
He vows to do anything it takes to get revenge on the slavers who murdered his people and took away his home. To destroy their regime, he must infiltrate and dismantle them from the inside, or die trying.

A New & Refreshing Voice in SFF.
This book is hard to categorize. There are some new elements, but this has some fairly common tropes just twisted around to create something unique.
There is fluidity to the universe and characters; there are great species on display. The author has a great hand at balancing hard SF elements with approachability, while still delivering some excellent lines or using a broad vocabulary.
I don't want to say too much more for fear of spoiling the book. It is a revenge story, but also a found family story. It doesn't do everything perfect, but the big swings or asks that it makes for leaps in believability really worked for me (YMMV on one or two specific things). I'd rate the story 4.5/5 overall, but this audio performance is a perfect 5/5. It does help to relisten to chapters if you tune out while driving or something, or I myself also had a physical copy of the book for when I was at home. but I like the performance so much that I just listened to it while flipping through for a more immersive experience. it also helped with some pronunciation.
