Ten-year-old Annemarie Johansen and her best friend Ellen Rosen often think of life before the war. It's now 1943, and their life in Copenhagen is filled with school, food shortages, and the Nazi soldiers marching through town. When the Jews of Denmark are "relocated", Ellen moves in with the Johansens and pretends to be one of the family. Soon Annemarie is asked to go on a dangerous mission to save Ellen's life.

A good way to learn about history
Inspired by true events, which are described in the afterword, this is a story about goodness and courage emerging from all sides during a very dark and dangerous time.

Memories
I remember reading this in school. I'm glad I found it to listen to. My question is, did Anne-Marie and Ellen ever reunite?

Moving, keeps you on your toes
I don't read too much in my free time, but this book was very easy to read and follow along. Its suspense was so strong at points that I just had to keep reading! Overall, really great book I would happily read again!
