About this listen
Born in West Africa in the early 1950s, Somé was kidnapped at age four by a French Jesuit missionary to be trained as a priest, for the next 15 years enduring the harsh regimen of a seminary where his native language and tribal traditions were systematically suppressed. At age 20 he escaped, but when he returned to his Dugara people in Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso) they rejected him as an outsider. To reconnect with his native culture, Somé underwent a month-long initiation into shamanism during which he reports that he journeyed to the underworld, became a bird, then a porcupine, and was buried alive.

First hand account on African Shamanism
If you’re genuinely curious behind the deep but brief spiritual matters, history, and stories behind this man and his experiences, I’d highly recommend this book. He details his tribes values and perspectives and also give you some of the wildest stories from his initiation. I do believe he tells the truth of a world most people in the west can only imagine in the movies.

Eye Opening
I love when books are narrated by the Author. This story was beautifully told. I appreciated his personal and cultural perspective of the white missionaries. I especially loved his matter of fact attitude toward the mysteries he experienced.

Inspiring testimony
This audiobook help me understand how "obtacles" in ou lifepath are modern initiation to overcome our weakness and fulfill our mission as a guidance of the World of Spirits. Surrending (Compassion, Pardon, Taslim, Acceptance etc.) to these experience are the most know tools to personnal achievement taught previously by Religion before it has lost it sens nowadays within the cultural entropy of globalisation.
