Publisher's Summary

A ruined life. A broken heart.

He thought it was the end, and his gun sat ready to make sure. But an oddball offer from his last friend comes at the literal last second. Curiosity gets the best of him, and he finds himself sucked into iNcarn8, a game claiming to be a whole new life.

Now, as Montana, the larger-than-life tank warrior, he has one more last time to get his life right.

Sufficiently Entertaining Straightforward GameLit

Genre mainstay author Eric Ugland introduces 'Montana': a questionably ethical loser IRL who decides to try life as a super-jacked Tank character in the iNcarn8/Aldrani universe - an immersive quest-based RPG-styled reality. The writing is capable, the combat is well-scripted (albeit a little gory), and the storytelling is intuitive.. but the game mechanics are unoriginal. It's a pretty generic DnD-styled MMORPG universe. Don't expect to see anything "new" here.

Fortuitously for audiobook consumers, Tantor Audio Inc. cast Neil Hellegers to narrate the book. He inspires too loudly occasionally & reads slightly too slowly overall - setting playback speed at 1.10X yields the most natural listening experience - but his diction, timbre, cadence, tone, and voice-acting are all worldclass. I would listen to more from Mr. Hellegers any day.

Altogether, 'One More Last Time' rates 8 stars out of 10. Fans of LitRPG will enjoy it - and it's easily worth your time if you can get it as a 'Plus' selection - but I personally wasn't captivated enough to continue with 'The Good Guys' series.
Who knows? You might be. Give this first entry a try - but keep browsing for a more innovative series if they ask for a Credit.

Clean simple start than a snowball of chaos

It was a nice change to not spend half a novel on learning the rules of the game or the mechanics. but like real life when joining a game, most players no nothing of the rules either. The character is more believable in that they didn't come from some up scale background or were an elite gamer to begin with. Montana is your MMO a typical NOOB, it's was a joy to read this.

Really good story but needs a little behind the scenes work.

Firstly I'd like to say that this story was actually pretty well written. The only issue is that this book is like a somewhere around 40% of what it should be in terms of depth and length. The ending is fairly anticlimatic even if it is a series that spans multiple books. Things that should have been emphasized are just glossed over (like 80% of the combat for instance). Listening to the book was enjoyable, but, it honestly felt like they compensated by slashing half the script to a movie to meet a minimum tiime requirement (and not a second more) so they could stay on budget, instead of letting the story flow out properly. If I could, I'd give this book a 6.5-6.8 out of 10, aka it's not bad; it's just not as good as it clearly could be.

Great Story!

Great book, found it tough to listen to something other than he who fights with monsters. I have tried 10 other books and nothing was as good as this one. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
