About this listen
When a local man, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, goes missing, his parents have good reason to be concerned. Emily Willows is a friend of the family and says that she knows just the person to find him - and, as Summer Lane soon points out, the fact that this also fits in with Emily's plan to set up her very own detective agency is surely just a fortuitous coincidence.
But it isn't long before the former detective inspector finds herself on a train heading back to London, and back into situations that she thought she had left behind. Some old acquaintances are renewed, and some difficult memories must be confronted as Lane searches for the missing soldier and discovers the shocking truth about what happened to him five years earlier.

Good story, but the reading is far too fast
The story, like all of the stories by Peter Grainger, is excellent, well structured and a great read. This reader however, although fairly comprehensible, reads way too fast. The earlier book in the same series is also too rushed.
I do not think this series, as a complete writer/reader package, is of the same quality of the remainder of Mr Grainger books but, as a fan of the writer, I expect I will read the next in the series to see if it is a little less frantic.

different type of story.
different type of story . enjoyed the DC Smith stories , but not this so much. the narrator seemed to be constantly ending a sentence by raising her voice as if asking a question.

This was an interesting enough story. Quite a bit packed in to the 5 hours, but I think the narrator’s pace had an impact on that. There was sufficient differentiation in the characters’ pitch and tone, but I just found it “grating” at times. I will listen to the next one in the series, though, as the characters are intriguing.

Great story with lots of surprises
I was impressed with the change of narrator to match the main character and her personality. Narration was quick but matched the character’s speed of thought
Very different from the author’s previous books I’ve read. Great short story

Plot wasn’t great
performance is flat and every sentence read exactly the same. It takes away from the enjoyment. Also read too fast.

I enjoyed both the story and the narration. I’m looking forward to more of both.

Old lady seeks excitement
Great story, a little more personality from main characters would have helped, too business like

Top notch story
Fast-paced, well written, well narrated. A thriller with a profoundly human outlook. I recommend this highly.
