À propos de cet audio
A suicide prevention hotline volunteer answers a call that turns her world upside down in this edge-of-your-seat audio original thriller by the bestselling author of The Perfect Child and The Best of Friends, performed by A.J. Cook (Criminal Minds) and Tessa Albertson (Younger).
Felicia, a single mother and lawyer by day, volunteers at a local crisis center to give back to her tightknit community in a small Wisconsin town. One night, she answers a horrifying call: through tears, a frantic teenage girl tells her that she was a victim of sexual assault at a local house party.
Felicia is shocked, and breaking protocol, she begins communicating with the girl on her own, determined to keep her safe and hold her assailants accountable. But as she gets closer and closer to the truth, she can’t shake the feeling that she and the girl are connected by more than the phone call. As the girl shares more details, Felicia begins to think the unthinkable—someone close to her may be involved in this heinous crime.
As Felicia earns the girl’s trust and more facts emerge about the incident, she faces a gut-wrenching battle between her protective instincts and the moral responsibility to do what’s right. This taut thriller is the perfect listen for fans of The Push, Wrong Place Wrong Time, and We Need to Talk About Kevin.

Whitney had some misgivings when she dropped her increasingly moody teenage daughter, Amelia, off at Lauren’s house. She’d never met the parents, and usually she’d go in, but Amelia clearly wasn’t going to let something so humiliating happen, so instead Whitney waved to her daughter before pulling away from the little house with the roses in front. But when she goes back the next day, an elderly couple answers the door - Amelia and Lauren aren’t there, and this couple swears they never were, that she’s at the wrong house.

Every night, in the college’s ancient cemetery, five people cross paths as they work the late shift: a bartender, a rideshare driver, a hotel receptionist, the steward of the derelict church that looms over them, and the editor-in-chief of the college paper, always in search of a story. One dark October evening in the defunct churchyard, they find a hole that wasn’t there before. A fresh, open grave where no grave should be. But who dug it, and for whom?

Years ago, bookseller and mystery aficionado Malcolm Kershaw compiled a list of the genre’s most unsolvable murders, those that are almost impossible to crack - which he titled "Eight Perfect Murders". But no one is more surprised than Mal, now the owner of the Old Devils Bookstore in Boston, when an FBI agent comes knocking on his door one snowy day in February. She’s looking for information about a series of unsolved murders that look eerily similar to the killings on Mal’s old list. And the FBI agent isn’t the only one interested in this bookseller.

Quick read that packs a punch
Once I started listening, there was absolutely no way I was stopping till it was finished.
Fast paced, with no unnecessary detail or dialogue. The pace does not detract from the emotionally charged, heartbreaking question underlying the story - how well does a parent truly know their child?
Lucinda Berry expertly navigates a parent's worst nightmare. She did her research to ensure a realistic plot without turning it into a procedural. The gut wrenching emotions are what drives this story to it's heartbreaking conclusion. The narrators did a phenomenal job at portraying fear, sadness, anger, and betrayal.
It deals with topics of assault, rape, and suicide, so please, if you have triggers, tread carefully or avoid this book altogether.

gut wrenching
One of Our Own was a deep story. I knew what I was getting into upon purchasing the audible book due to seeing a recent review reel from someone on instagram. If I read this as a book rather than listened to it, I feel it definitely wouldn't have made me like it as much. You needed the interaction between the main character and the victim in order to really feel the emotions, somethings words couldn't have portrayed as accurately. Please research the trigger warnings before listening to this book as it touches on major issues and situations in which many have trouble stomaching. Overall the story was captivating but extremely predictable. I originally was going to rate this a three star, but I felt as though AJ Cook and Tessa Anderson did a phenomenal job. The story seemed right up AJ's alley, as a former actress in Criminal Minds and all.

Excellent
This book was SO good!!!!
I was so immersed into this story within the very first few minutes. Lucinda Berry managed to tell an incredible story from beginning to end in just over 3 hours.
I was hesitant on spending a credit for such a short book but I am so happy I did! I wish all books were told in this spectacular way.
