About this listen
From an early age, Amber van de Bunt knew she wasn't like the other girls in town. From childhood struggles with depression and eating disorders, her years as a topless dancer in Florida, and an eventual abortion and suicide attempt, to her rebirth in Los Angeles as a porn star named Karmen Karma, overcoming her relationship with her abusive mother, and her struggle to maintain a clean and sober lifestyle - van de Bunt's life has been a wild roller coaster. With humor, alacrity, and profound insight, she reveals her deepest, darkest secrets and pulls no punches - least of all with herself.

This voice, and the support of her grandmother, helps her overcome her circumstances instead of falling victim to them. Story
My name is Brett. I'm a college-educated man who was once a husband of 26 years with two children, three businesses, and a large home with an actual white picket fence. I'm also a drug addict. And I have a tale to tell. It's about the despair of addiction and the absolute certainty that it can be overcome. Recovery is not simply abstinence, but a process of growing up. I spent my entire life searching for the key to long-term sobriety. I would like to share with you what I have learned.

Story
This is a true story. A transparent story of the life of a young man in America, who, like many of our lost youth, found his way into the drug culture. This story is an autopsy into the mind, heart, and soul of an addict. It begins at childhood and takes us through the thoughts, turmoil, and inner conflicts of a person lost in the undercurrent of addiction, and ends in a climax of self-discovery and realization. It is a gripping tale of a suburban youth and his journey through the streets of Baltimore, institutions, prisons, addiction, and worst of all, his own mind.

Story
At the age of 24, Jordan Barnes woke up next to a lifeless body, rifled through his dead friends’ pockets for any remaining heroin, and went right back to using. Strung out and homeless during the supposed best years of his life, there was no clear way out of the opioid crisis ravaging the streets of Portland, Oregon. But though Jordan had long accepted his fate, his parents still held out hope and would do everything in their power to get him the help he so desperately needed.

Intriguing!!
The author takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions with her sharing her life of addiction & being a porn star! I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this book but I'm so glad I took the chance on the great reviews & got a copy & listened.
there are times where I felt the author didn't put enough emotion into reading her story a loud but I chalked it up to her having already lived every emotion for every situation that this was just her way of speaking. You can tell by her voice that she os just reading from her book.
I did enjoy the story though very much!

Honest
Honest, open hearted. While I’m not against porn, i still struggle to understand why someone does hard core porn while other options are available. Still very enjoyable book. Well done Amber!

This book is amazing, I hope she writes another one!!
She’s so real, so unfiltered, so raw. It’s brave of her to share this and I relate so much to her story in so many ways!!! I literally wish I could listen to this book again for the first time.

EVERYTHING HAPPENS 4 A REASON!!
Ive believed that phrase my whole life and this was another example of that. I loved how honest Amber/Karmen was and because of that this book could save lives. It’s inspiring to see how some1 could b so lost and fight for herself and how true love saved her and helped give her strength. I got my free month trial and after looking so many titles I found OVERCOME and I chose it and listened right away. I’ve been struggling with addiction a really long time and realize that no matter what I’ve been threw no matter how much time it’s taken there’s so much more I could get sober. Letting go of people who are toxic even if it’s family members really stayed with me, how can you change and have a better life if you still have those same toxic people in ur life? Even if there not drinkers or drug addicts sometimes people are so toxic just how they treat you, make you feel with their words. I think that literally will solve my “why can’t I ever seem to get this right when I’m doing everything different everytime” that’s huge for me and thank you 4 being so honest. I think she ll make an amazing mom because of what’s she’s been threw she ll know how to be the best mom because of how she never got that from her real mom and maybe that’s why she had such a terrible experience with her mom to give her daughter the best mother daughter experience ever.
I loved this book!! And I’m definitely subscribing to autoible I don’t ever have time to read books anymore it seems and it’s awesome I can still enjoy books while I’m getting ready driving cooking dinner or anytime.

Definite entertainment
Her story will take you for a ride, that's for sure. Highly entertaining to listen to, her use of vivid detail and descriptive narration instantly plays like a movie in my mind and brings all of her experiences to life. With each decision she makes as her story progresses I actually found myself wondering time and time again, how the hell could someone actually get through life being that stupid?
