About this listen
Read by the authors.
Am I getting parenting right? Most parents, at any and every stage, find themselves asking this question.
Whether you're sleep deprived with a colicky newborn or navigating the emotional roller coaster of a teenager, parenting has its ups and downs, its confusion and clarity, its big blowups and small victories. And no matter our family makeup or our children's personalities, many of us experience anxiety over our children's futures and often fear making a mistake.
Andy and Sandra Stanley are no strangers to this feeling. As parents of three grown children and cofounders of North Point Ministries, they are seasoned experts on faith and parenting. Together they have spent decades counseling countless families, mentoring others, and learning from mentors of their own, all while leading one of the largest churches in the country.
In Parenting: Getting It Right, Andy and Sandra combine their experience and wisdom into a guide that helps listeners understand and live by essential parenting principles. In an inviting, conversational approach that is both informative and accessible, the Stanleys help listeners understand the most important goal in parenting and learn the steps to pursue it by:
- Learning the four distinct stages of parenting
- Clarifying the primary goal of parenting and developing a parenting orientation around that goal
- Identifying and adapting their approach—not their rules—to their children's distinct personalities
- Deciding on their shortlist of non-negotiables and learning to stick to it
You don't have to constantly doubt if you're getting it right as a parent. Start here and feel confident about raising a healthy and happy family.

Story
Modern parents are stressed out and tired. They’ve tried countless parenting books, many of which are harsh, fear-based books that loving parents instinctively reject. As Christians, we frequently believe that the battle for a child's heart and soul is fought on the outside with rigid rules, when in fact the opposite is true. Rejecting rigidity and checklists that don't work, Dr. Kimmel recommends a parenting style that is the opposite, emphasizing the importance of communicating the unconditional love that Christ offers and affirming this timeless message of grace to one's family.

For intentional parents
By far one of the most digestible and challenging parenting books I've ever read. There are too many gems to mention but it felt like I was sitting with Andy and Sandra and picking their brains about parenting. With two little ones at home, we feel the tug of cultural parenting (gentle and all other forms). This book taught me to look to Jesus for wisdom while parenting and to focus on Jesus as the basis for parenting (without being preachy).
If Andy and Sandra ever read this, Mark and Chris say thank you! We're buying a ton of these for our friends and family.

Full of wisdom and help
This book was full of little bits of advice and tips and had an overarching theme of how to raise your kids so they'll want to come home again as adults. It made me think and consider things I never have before.
It was the first time I ever had to slow down a podcast because the narration was too fast. Not a big deal.

Provides great insight and tips for new parents
As a new parent with a 5 month old, I found this book really helpful. It gives me peace and some confidence on what we'll be dealing with in the years to come.. The 4 stages of parenting is a very interesting and helpful concept and I will sure be going back to re-read this book as our child goes through these different stages.
Having a Christian perspective is a bonus, although I would still highly recommend it to any non-religious parents out there.
