Great start to phase two!!

I really liked this one! Great characters and a surprise ending. The whole way through I was trying to piece together how this leads to the events of phase one and it did not disappoint! Way to go Tessa and Justina!

Good book. Terrible reader

The reader has zero idea how to implement modulation, pacing, emotion, and reads way too fast. Brutal.

Great Beginnings

As the first entry into phase 2 of the High Republic, this novel had to set up allot... and it did. It features a new force cult of Zealots that believe the force should be free of manipulation which puts them at immediate odds with the Jedi. Their leader the Mother is not what she seems and has dark desires for special force relics that she must posses by any means necessary. This book goes places you wouldn't expect and introduces a new enemy that may bring the Jedi to Heel. All and all a good start to the phase 2 project and a must read for star wars fans.

Must read for the High Republic

a bit slow at the start but really catches you with the second half. also it makes some choices that caught me off guard.

I just don't like this High Republic Stuff

Didn't mind the first couple old republic books, learning about the Nihil etc.... but as it continues.... it's just a depressing bludgeoning of Jedi they make you like. I know there is a republic in the movies with many jedi... I know the Jedi survive this, but it's been 3 books now of developing interesting characters and then punching the reader in the gut. Order 66 is part of the Star Wars, but if you made me watch 4 movies recounting every Jedi death during it, I wouldn't have stuck with the franchise, I'd be crying...

I'll come back during phase 3, to read how the Jedi solve this, because they owe that to me for the time I've put in so far, but I'm not listening/reading another bunch of books. This one was 90% teen romance, 5% depressing action, 5% foreboding doom. Booo.

For the record, I like EVERY OTHER THING STAR WAR's, Legend/Canon/TV/Movies, you name it. If you look at my last review complaining about Fallen Star, you'd wonder why I bought this. Because I'm a sucker.
