About this listen

A fearless warrior. An implacable traitor. The path toward a destiny only a god foresaw.

Fel'annár is a gifted immortal warrior embarking on his first patrol into the Deep Forest. Half-Silvan, half-Alpine, he battles the enemy from without, and the prejudice from within. But he learns more than just warfare when an arcane power begins to emerge, one he cannot control.

While friendships are forged, a destiny unfolds, one that is tied to a past he knows nothing about. For others, though, it is only a matter of time before the truth is revealed, and the danger becomes real.

If you love high fantasy worlds with compelling characters on a dangerous mission, you can't miss Path of a Novice, book one in the epic fantasy series The Silvan Saga.

Round 2

This is my 2nd time reading this book. A couple years ago I read the first 4 books of this series. They are exceptional! When I got to the end of the 4th book; Return of a Warlord, I was torn…. I was relieved that the story wasn’t over because I wasn’t ready to say goodbye or let go of it yet. I was ecstatic that there would be more, more adventure, more laughter, more danger, more to learn & more to lose, because this story and these characters had become a true part of me. I also felt disappointment, even a bit of anger, for it would be SOME time before the 5th book; Rise of the Silvan, would be available. So here I am with 2 more books to read and I thought of how much I loved the series the first time so rather than continue where I left off, I would relive and love the adventure again.

So very good!!!

Wow!!!! This book was included in the plus catalogue when I search for fantasy. I took a chance because the synopsis seemed interesting, and I’m so glad I did! You don’t want to miss even a minute of this book. There’s no lull or millions of boring chapters to listen to before the action begins, it starts right away into the adventure and I’m so glad it does. I’m glad that the author also isn’t one to take a character already beaten down by his birth and circumstances and repeatedly beats him down throughout the entire book, nor is it the case where we are subjected to a barrage of self-pity or lack of confidence by the main character as seen in other books when the main lead’s origins are sad or unknown.

I wonder how the story will unfold in the next six or so books and hope they are all equally as enjoyable as this book. If you were looking for a complex story, heavy on the imagery, but light on the action, this is not the book for you. If you are looking for romance, this is not the book for you [maybe the author adds it, but I hope if he does it doesn’t distract from the plot]. This is an Elvin story that includes two distinct races of elves and the story of one man whose mother is from one race and father is from the other, as he becomes the people’s champion.
