About this listen
Once in a lifetime
Three low-income families have been given a handsome retainer to join Geraldine Borden for a day at her cliffside estate. All the parents must do to collect the rest of their money is allow their children to test out the revolutionary playground equipment Geraldine has been working on for decades. But there’s a reason the structures in the bowels of her gothic castle have taken so long to develop—they were never meant to see the light of day.
When a band of dysfunctional children is suddenly thrust into a diabolical realm of violence, they must grow up instantly to have a chance at survival. Will they find a way to put their differences aside, or be swallowed up by the insidious architecture all around them?
"With Playground, Aron Beauregard transcends himself, delivering a genuinely chilling, uncomfortable novel that will make even the most jaded horror fan squirm. A harrowing, relentless read that left me breathless." (Brian Keene)

Amazing yet horrifying
I loved it. It was perfectly grotesque without being all about the gore. It was a perfect balance of story and gore. I loved the characters and how they all stood apart from each other.

Fabulously grotesque
I couldn’t stop listening. It was terrible. And wonderful. And so disturbing.
The ending was good!
What do I do with my life now that it’s over…

Horrifyingly excellent
Heed the warning at the beginning if this might trigger you at all!! Favorite part was the alternating between the kids and the parents. There is a long part about incest and poop fantasies all wrapped into one - so reader be warned! Lol

brah
Heinous but fun. willy wonka meets SAW. Even if you like this kinda stuff, it's a rough ride; I recommend it, but I wouldn't blame you if you NDF. Even taking out the Legendary pages 40-45~ it's nauseating.

A suspenseful, heartwrenching, traumatizing gore-fest. Like Squidgame with kids. 10/10!
This story was like watching a multi-car scene of destruction. It was horrific and disgusting, yet I couldn't tear my ears away. The playground scenes were maliciously creative and relentlessly brutal. Meanwhile, the secondary villain, I think, is better than the primary because I can believe him to more likely exist in our reality. Though I detest the primary villain, she seems cartoonishly evil at times. I can even appreciate the grotesque scenes with her and the character Rock because, despite their physical effects on my psyche, they bring a genuine feeling of sickening nausea and light-headedness. The ability of a story to bring a physical effect to the reader is a testament to the writer's ability to verbally paint a picture.

could have gone without certain scenes
The horror aspect of this book was incredible, the ending was satisfying and heart wrenching but there were certain sexual aspects that i wish weren’t present, I wish there was much less detail on the gross sexual stuff, the book could have been much better

Incredibly disturbing and gross
The story keeps you on your toes, but can be a bit predictable at times. It draws from an incredible pool of vocabulary that creates a grotesque scene and disturbing emotions. Could have done without the sexual aspects of this, I felt they didn’t add to the story much and were only included for shock (which works) but overall I couldn’t stop reading! The contents makes it hard to put down and had me questioning what would happen till the end. Great if you like less vomit inducing splatterpunk novels.
