Publisher's Summary
Break the enchanted mirror. Burn the poisoned apple. Fight for your own version of happily ever after.
Once upon a time, a girl named Sophie rode into the forest. Her lips were as red as blood, her skin as pale as snow, and her hair as dark as night. When she stopped to rest, her huntsman companion took his knife, plunged it into Sophie’s chest...and removed her heart.
As she gasped for breath on the forest floor, Sophie was terrified but not surprised. She’d heard the rumors, the whispers. They said she was too weak and foolish to rule, a waste of a princess. A disaster of a future queen. And Sophie believed them. Because in this world, poisoned apples don’t put you into an enchanted sleep - they infect your mind with the cruelest things ever said about you. It’s what keeps girls like Sophie from becoming too powerful, too strong....
Yet Sophie doesn’t die. She’s rescued by seven mysterious engineers who manage to fashion her a temporary heart. It’s not perfect, but it has one advantage - it hasn’t been contaminated by fear. Now Sophie has the chance to hunt down the source of the poisoned apples, to find the person who stole her heart and take it back. To prove that even the darkest magic can’t extinguish the fire burning inside every girl.

Story
Isabelle should be blissfully happy - she's about to win the handsome prince. Except Isabelle isn't the beautiful girl who lost the glass slipper and captured the prince's heart. She's the ugly stepsister who cut off her toes to fit into Cinderella's shoe...which is now filling with blood. Isabelle cut away pieces of herself in order to become pretty. Sweet. More like Cinderella. But that only made her mean, jealous, and hollow. Now she has a chance to alter her destiny and prove what ugly stepsisters have always known: it takes more than heartache to break a girl.

Story
What is the story of the dark fairy, Maleficent? Why does she curse the innocent princess? What led to her becoming so filled with malice, anger, and hatred? Many tales have tried to explain her motives. Here is one account, pulled down from the many passed down through the ages. It is a tale of love and betrayal, of magic and reveries. It is a tale of the mistress of all evil.

Fairy tale, but not a nursery rhyme
Another version of "Snow White!" The seven little miners in the woods were a dead giveaway.
Then I found this was a coming-of-age story, a Journey in which the Protagonist learns Important Lessons.
Thirdly, an Allegorical tale, as the real antagonists are revealed to be metaphorical.
And finally, a return to the Fairy Tale.
The epilogue was very reminiscent of Discworld stories, which I liked.

Beautiful Performance of a Terrific Story
Jennifer Donnelly's fierce version of this fairy tale stirs courage and fights the horrible doubts we all face. I wish I'd grown up learning her version, but am thankful to have experienced it now - in my mid forties. Her descriptions weave wonderful pictures, and the plot twists in unexpected ways. This is one of the guiding stories that every young girl should learn.
Rosie Jones' performance of the story and all its many characters was stellar. Her dramatic intensity compliments the story beautifully and builds the emotional connection so much.
I'll be looking forward to more from both of these women!

Illuminating
I have truly enjoyed this version of a classic. It really makes you think, bring you to the conviction that you are enough, and to the courage needed.
Thank you. I will certainly listen again.

Great Listen
Live the new twist on the Snow white story. always kept you wondering what would happen next. I also lived how the predictable wasn't always so.
