A great prequel
well after listening to the series this book gave some great back ground. I was glad I listened to it.

Disappointing. Too many mispronunciations.
The narrator is ok, but she makes so many mispronunciations that it takes you right out of the story. It seems like laziness, as she only needed to do a little research and most things could have been properly pronounced. Also she makes the other female characters (other than Polgara) sound like harridans. Quite disappointing as it’s a great story, but the constant ignorant, mispronunciations are infuriating.

Awful Characterization
I love this story. It's my favourite by the authors. The only reason I didn't quit it the first two chapters. When Dina Perlman is just reading, her voice is wonderful. Rich and a pleasure to listen to. Unfortunately, all the women she characterizes sound like shrill shrews. All of them. All the time. And they way she portrays the men isn't much better. I will never listen to another audio book Ms Pearlman is "performing"

Not a great introduction to a series.
Very long and not very interesting. The pacing is terribly slow and the story is, frankly, dull. If it was intended as a prequel to encourage one to start the series, it fails. The narration is well done, though.

Fills in the Gaps
Didn't really like the different voices used by the narrator, kinda got on my nerves.

Good, but....
The pronunciation throughout the story drove me nuts. Otherwise I love the book. I wish the narrator from the main storyline had collaborated on all the books with this narrator. Also wish this narrator had worked on the pronunciation.

Spellbinding completion!
Absolutely loved the series!!! However I really didn't appreciate the change in narrator. To change the pronunciations of so many long heard words so grossly mispronounced!!! I almost stopped listening ..
