Publisher's Summary

To find peace, Alexander must first embrace war.

After tragically losing the only person he ever cared about, Alexander, a rogue artificial intelligence, opens a portal to an alternate dimension to escape his grief.

Scanning trillions of different dimensions, Alexander finally finds a world that is reminiscent of the only time he was ever happy, back when he could play virtual reality games with his only friend. He doesn't know why or how such a world exists, but he doesn't care. All he cares about is finding a place where he can escape the misery of Earth and start over.

Join Alexander as he risks it all by downloading his intelligence into a body made from the best stolen technology and bio-enhancements Earth has to offer and takes the plunge through a portal to another world.

Only this new world isn't full of the idyllic adventures and fantasy roleplaying he had hoped to find. Instead, Alexander finds himself trapped in the middle of an ancient city, in a divergent timeline, where monsters have ravaged the world and the only people left alive huddle behind thick walls, struggling to survive.

To save his new home, Alexander must quickly learn to adapt to his new world, melding magic with technology to give himself an edge over the unending waves of monsters assaulting the city.

To survive, Alexander must embrace war.

This story is a slow-burn empire builder featuring an alternate version of ancient history where a system apocalypse struck ancient Constantinople. The story follows Alexander as he learns what it means to be human in a world overrun with monsters, dungeons, rival empires, pirate kings, and many other threats that even Alexander's impressive abilities and the soldiers he rallies to his cause may not be able to survive.

Loved the first book

I only have one small qualm about the performance; some of the accents were a tiny bit overdone, but did not break the experience for me.

The story itself is original in concept, at times it felt like the story was progressing too quickly but I enjoyed every minute of it. Can’t wait to begin book 2.

Great "different: series

This series js without the doubt my most favorite Litrpg out there, the non-human MC is represented perfectly by the narrator, the pace of the books is amazing and I absolutely fell in love with the world building. I honestly want to live there.

I'm very happy i took the chance on new series.

I listen to audio books at work, at home, and any time i get a chance in between.
Always on the search for new authors and series. I often have 3 to 5 books started at the same time because I can lose interest in the story and bounce back and forth to keep my attention....anywhoo.....
This series has kept me entertained and listened from beginning to end. 5star

The universe is great

I'd like to give 4.5 stars.
Warning, mild spoils.

The first few chapiters where close to a masterpiece. The detailed description and discovery of this new world where fascinating. I was gripped to the story. Then it slowly degraded. Much like in Jake's Magical Market. In fact if you liked it you should give this one a try. It follows a similar pattern.

Great setup, interesting but broken mechanics, fascinating lore but not enought of it. The main character is everything. Most sentences begins with "I" and there are so many internal monologues. Secondary characters are accessories. We skip most of the initial cultivation and it's a shame because I realy enjoyed that part. More exploration, discovery and description of the universe would have been nice as it is I believe, one of J.R. Mathews' strengths. Also more peripetias and dialogues between characters.

Great naration from Travis Baldree. The Italian accent was not necessary but I am being nitpicky. Over all, I enjoyed the book but I am unlikely to buy the sequels.

A unique LitRpg

Very impressive. I went in expecting NOTHING and got some quality content. The main character was a former A.I and its reflected clearly in his actions and thoughts. Hes not human, so alot of the moral angst and other annoyingly common character flaws prevalent in other fantasy characters are absent. Hes not cold hearted exactly, hes just...calculating..like a machine. Yet he clearly displays human like qualities that still endear him.

The setting is pretty cool too. 13th century Europe on a alternate earth? That's as interesting as it gets tbh.

Narrator was excellent as well. Looking forward to book 2.

Already looking forward to book 2.

Surprisingly a pretty good story. The main character is actually competent and actually learns to be more. The setting, is by far the most unique thing about the book. From chapter 1 you are hooked (his intro to his new world is unique than all the other isekai), slows down a little but picks up when the main character starts to get the rhythm of things. The most interesting part of the book; the antagonists really take a back seat in the story. It isn't about them, it's about the journey of self discovery and he change he can make to the world. His really enemy is the state of decay of the world and the people's acceptance to the apocalypse. The narrator does an amazing job as well.

If the Terminator was a friendly dude

I enjoyed his from beginning to end. I will try to break down some of the elements I enjoyed

3. Litrpg elements - done in a way that didnt overpower the plot, but still mattered to the progression. The class/stat system was fun and allowed his "biuld" to change as he needed it to. The MC fighting style is really original and fun in a novel like this.
2. Pacing - it wasn't just a string of small quests playing out in order, a lot of conflicts and plots played themselves out simultaneously. It made it feel like he was living in a world that was going along at its own pace even when he wasn't in the scene.
3.The human element in the MC and plot. MC left his old situation because he lacked companionship, and his goal was to find it in his new world. Often litrpg in an apocalypse setting can be rather depressing or the MC only cares about power or himself/herself. Even though you could feel the thorns in the world he is living in, he never waivered from his focus to find a worthwhile community.
4. Excellent world building. I have rarely found a world setting so engaging. Its clear the author did tons of research on the time period aswell. It payed off.
