About this listen
The fossilized remains of a previously unclassified hominin species are discovered in the Altai Mountains, prompting teams of scientists from around the globe to converge upon this isolated region of Siberia in search of further evidence to corroborate the revolutionary theory that a third protohuman ancestor coexisted with Neanderthals and primitive Homo sapiens.
What awaits them is anything but extinct.
FBI Special Agent Grey Porter leads the investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the appearance of a factory trawler of Russian origin off of the Washington Coast. He finds 12 bodies, all of them exsanguinated through ferocious bite wounds on their necks. According to the manifest, there should have been only 11.
Whatever killed them is no longer onboard.
Elena Sturm of the Seattle PD is assigned to patrol the waterfront renovation project on Salmon Bay. While rousting the homeless from the underground warrens of the massive construction site, she stumbles upon the corpse of a man whose wounds are identical to those of the victims aboard the ghost ship. Something has cut a bloody swath across the Pacific.

Well read.
I enjoy both this author (one of my current favourite) and the narrator. My only complaint is the formatting/ editing errors in the first half. There were three Very obvious errors where the fix had been put in but the errors had not been cut out of the final version of narration. Otherwise would have given 5stars for the performance. Still enjoyable though and I recommend to other fans of Michael McBride books.

Good but…
….clearly the author was HEAVILY influenced by Relic, by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. One has to wonder if he thought readers wouldn’t notice. Much of the story was similar…the dead ship crew, creature in the tunnels, police and a fed working together, ordered to solve homeless killings before the mayor’s shindig, patrons get attacked at the party, scientist after the DNA. Really similar story lines but luckily I loved Relic so it’s all good 😊
