The #1 bestselling legal thriller that inspired the record-breaking television series of the same name, starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

"Spellbinding. Relentless. The work of a profoundly gifted author." —New York Times

New York Times bestselling author Scott Turow presents our worst nightmare: that of an ordinary citizen facing conviction for the most terrible of all crimes. Rusty Sabich, family man and the number two prosecutor of Kindle County, is handed an explosive case—the brutal murder of a woman who happens to be his former lover. A shocking turn of events suddenly transforms him from the accuser into the accused.

Presumed Innocent is a stunning portrayal of one man's all-too-human, all-consuming fatal attraction for a passionate woman who is not his wife, and the story of how his obsession puts everything he loves and values on trial—including his own life.

It's a book that lays bare a shocking world of betrayal and murder, as well as the hidden depths of the human heart. And it will hold you and haunt you ... long after you have reached its shattering conclusion.

Really enjoyed this book. Lots of twists and turns. Performance is very monotone at first but he really gets into it and adds to the enjoyment of the book as time went on.

They don't write them like this anymore. It was so good, I was guessing until the end.

Didn't see that one coming

This book was rightly made into an incredible Harrison Ford vehicle. It's a brilliant combination of political intrigue, gritty courtroom drama, a violent murder, and the twists and turns of an investigation/prosecution. Scott Turow writes powerful dialogue, clever plot twists, doesn't hold back on realism, injects laugh-out-loud humor, and keeps the reader guessing throughout. My only concern might be that the author occasionally displays grammatical errors (using "quotient" instead of "quota", for example). His vocabulary/prose is otherwise unimpeachable. This book is very readable.

Edward Hermann was an excellent choice to narrate, too. He reads with professional diction, a comfortable timbre, an interested tone, and has a cadence and emphasis style that matches the text perfectly. Additionally, Hermann's accent skills are used effectively (only a couple of them are annoying).

This recording of a legit classic in the genre rates 9.5 out of 10 stars.

[Incidentally: the hilariously foul-mouthed Asian Pathologist/Coroner (Tatsuo "Painless" Kumagai) is one the most memorable characters that I have read in a long time]
