Publisher's Summary

Miri lives on a mountain where, for generations, her ancestors have quarried stone and lived a simple life. Then word comes that the king's priests have divined her small village the home of the future princess. In a year's time, the prince himself will come and choose his bride from among the girls of the village.

The king's ministers set up an academy on the mountain, and every teenage girl must attend and learn how to become a princess. Miri soon finds herself confronted with a harsh academy mistress, bitter competition among the girls, and her own conflicting desires to be chosen and win the heart of her childhood best friend. But when bandits seek out the academy to kidnap the future princess, Miri must rally the girls together and use a power unique to the mountain dwellers to save herself and her classmates.

Splendid story!

I love this story so much! I've listened to it a few times, and borrowed the book from the library. The only part that I don't really enjoy is the singing before each new chapter begins. Besides that though it's amazing! You must listen to this audio book!

The Full Cast Audio really brings it to life

I absolutely ADORE this production of Princess Academy! The full cast breathes life into the text and made me feel again like that young girl who had just discovered the magic of quarry speech. The music between chapters never felt out of place either - it definitely suited the little quarry songs perfectly. Strong recommendation! Especially so if you are a plus member and can listen through the plus catalogue.

Delightful little romance

Very much enjoyed this little story about the connections of a mountain people, romance, providence, and the happily ever after ending.

Do NOT recommend!

I struggled to finish this book. The main narrator's voice didn't add to what was already a dull, long-winded storyline with little substance or serious conflict. The bits of conflict there was were superficial and the main and individual narrators failed to make believable. Particularly annoying was the fact that all the narrators for the potential "princesses" sounded like they were 5 year olds. I won't be wasting my time on anymore in this series or by this author.
