Publisher's Summary

In his groundbreaking best seller The Gift of Fear, Gavin de Becker showed millions of readers that, like every creature on earth, human beings can predict violent behavior. Now, in this exclusive audio presentation of Protecting the Gift, de Becker empowers parents to fully trust their own intuition when it comes to their children's safety. In this indispensable resource, de Becker provides keen insights into the behavior and strategies of predators. He offers practical new steps to enhance children's safety at every age level: specific questions parents can ask to effectively screen and evaluate babysitters, daycare services, schools, and doctors; a "Test of 12" safety skills children need before being alone in public; warning signs to help parents protect children from sexual abuse; and how to keep teenage girls and boys from unsafe situations with peers and adults. De Becker also shatters the myth that rules like "Never talk to strangers" will keep your children safe. By showing what danger really looks like - as opposed to what we might imagine it looks like - de Becker gives parents freedom from many common worries and unwarranted fears.

Great book but...

Excellent book full of eye opening stories but, if you have already read "The gift of fear" I would suggest to skip this one unless it's on sale. Most of the content of this book is a copy of many chapters from "The gift of fear".
There is some new content but not enough to justify its full price.

Left out a whole lot more

It is 2019 now and this book was released in 1999. The world has changed a lot since then. We are living in the age of surveillance. Having said that I felt this book no I know that the problem with this book was not what it did say but what it did not say. That being said the scary things that have been going on will make parents even more afraid. He did not mention the foster care system and just how dangerous-in fact it is even more dangerous for a child to be in foster care then it is to be in a slightly abusive home. The propaganda out there is that child protective services or the system protects children when it does not always do that. You can read allot of horror stories about the foster care system and the witch hunts on parents on Facebook or through Amazon but I do not think audible will carry it.
