Publisher's Summary

Introducing the Custard Protocol series, in which Alexia Maccon's daughter, Prudence, travels to India on behalf of queen, country--and the perfect pot of tea.

When Prudence Alessandra Maccon Akeldama ("Rue" to her friends) is bequeathed an unexpected dirigible, she does what any sensible female under similar circumstances would do: she christens it the Spotted Custard and floats off to India.

Soon she stumbles upon a plot involving local dissidents, a kidnapped brigadier's wife, and some awfully familiar Scottish werewolves. Faced with a dire crisis (and an embarrassing lack of bloomers), Rue must rely on her good breeding--and her metanatural abilities--to get to the bottom of it all.

What the critics say

" Soulless has all the delicate charm of a Victorian parasol, and all the wicked force of a Victorian parasol secretly weighted with brass shot and expertly wielded. Ravishing." (Lev Grossman)
"The world of Timeless is a unique recipe of steampunk and fantasy spiced with light sprinkling of romance. Its setting is rich for characters to romp about in, but the unbridled playfulness of the language and dialogue shines brightest." ( The Miami Herald)

Fun, upated YA airship Victoriana

Proper airship adventuring. The new destinations and characters enlarged and enlightened the world in a charming and satisfying way. Rue is a great protagonist, possibly more fun to follow than her mother, and the crew dynamics are believable and entertaining.

a phenomenal first book to this series

This book was so good I couldn't put it down and listened to it in two days!
In good Gail Carriger fashion it had witty humor that had me laughing out loud many times. It also had teasing of some romance and a tonne of adventure.
One thing to note is I wish the narrator had listened to the previous books OR the producer of this audiobook had noted to her how the other narrator pronounced some of the names.
Macon, BUR, Queen Nadishine and Uncle Rabiffano were some of the differently pronounced names/titles. Now that was not Moiras fault if she was never told and had not listened to the books previously. It just took some getting used to. I already downloaded the second book and can't wait to listen!

I enjoyed this next phase of the Parasol Protector

The story picks up 20 years after the last Parasol Protectorate book. Prudence is a worthy successor to Alexis. Moira Quirk is also very good. As always, it takes a few chapters to get used to a new narrator, but she is excellent. I found this book to be a bit more "young adult" than the previous series. Unexpected, but still good. Roo and Prim are just who they should be.
