About this listen

A girl suddenly vanishes from her world and finds herself drifting in and out of consciousness in a world of pure darkness. The only insight into her precarious situation is a prompt opening before her eyes indicating that the system failed to delete her.

The doggedly optimistic and naive teenager, Naomi, is reborn as a monster into a fantastical world governed by the rigid rules of a suspiciously game-like system; a world full of magic and danger where the familiar mingles with the inexplicable. She finds herself deep in the bizzarre, savage forests of the unclaimed lands where deadly monsters prowl in the shadows just out of sight.

After a close brush with death, any hope that this could be a lighthearted adventure evaporates as she feels real pain for the first time. The realization sinks in as Naomi comes to terms with this not being just a game; it’s her reality now.

As if coming to grips with the life or death survival situation she finds herself in isn’t enough, the description of one of her skills seems to be speaking to her....

Magic Salamander = Adorably Awesome

Loved everything, though my adhd hates naivete it was still a great story. Soothing, gentle narration only made it easier to get lost in the flow.

beautiful

I absolutely loved this story and how it has come together so far. every near death experience the MC goes through makes the reader stop and reconsider how difficult survival really is.

The charater and systems/mechanics development is just outstanding and the plot development makes the reader feel like history is being made!

Relaxing and intriguing

This is a good start to what I can see as a longer series. Naomi is a thoughtful and kind main character and the supporting cast are fun.
The world created is very interesting, especially the pillars. The dubious nature and how things are more than they seem make you want more.
The only reason why I didn't rate five stars is that it is quite short, but when the only shortcoming is that there isn't more that is a good sign.

Listening vs Reading

Though I enjoyed this book greatly, having to listen to all the statistics over and over began to get tedious. As a reader, I could have skimmed those bits, but as a listener, I didn’t have much choice. As this series progresses, These list will only get longer, which I am not looking forward to. I understand the purpose of them, but it did lower me overall enjoyment of the book. I am however eager for the next in the series!

Not a murdo hobo in sight

This is an amazing story, Out of the dozen or so LITRPG stories I have listened to, this is the second series to have a female protagonist, and the protagonist is well written. There is no quest for power, no murder revenged, no fight the powers that be, just a I woke up in this new world and made a life for herself. Yes fighting happens, but the characters are not seeking battle, they are not fighting for glory, they are fighting because it happens naturally in the story. With the protagonist being a healer rather than a fighting also add to the story!

Great story, great read!

This is a great story, with great characters, great plot ideas, and many highly creative and unique ideas. I read a LOT of litrpg, and found this book a really refreshing take on the genre.

I listened to this with my kids (age 7 to 14) and we all loved it. They would ask every night, and soon we were listening even while I cooked supper.

We can't wait for book two!

Thanks Maari!

An intriguing tale with a truncated conclusion

I enjoyed the characters and the story oh, so far. However, the final stopping point is somewhat jarring as it feels like there should be a bit more to this first book. The end feels more like a good time for an intermission not a conclusion.

Meh.

Authors need to find a better way to convey stats and stuff other than long, boring status dumps. She fucking scans every fucking thing she comes across. Jesus. For that you get three fucking stars and you better be grateful. Honestly all these authors that go by their "internet name" are just shit. Most of them you can find on Reddit and then you realize you wasted a credit on some reddit communist that's had writers block for 4 years.
