About this listen

The next audiobook in the epic fantasy series by USA Today bestselling author Scarlett St. Clair.

Isolde, newly coronated queen, has finally found a king worthy of her in the vampire Adrian. But their love for each other has cost Isolde her father and her homeland. With two opposing goddesses playing mortals and vampires like chess pieces against one another, Isolde is uncertain who her allies are in the vampire stronghold of Revekka.

Now, as politics in the Red Palace grow more underhanded and a deadly blood mist threatens all of Cordova, Isolde must trust in the bond she's formed with Adrian, even as she learns troubling information about his complicated past.

I am tired of this

The story just seems to be dragging on in this book. It’s just not as engaging as the first one. I feel like the book ought not to be a series or this book is like a “filler” before the “exciting conclusion to”.

The performance is starting to sound one-note and tired. The reader does have a lovely voice, it may just be that the material is weak.

Isolde, what happened to you?

I quite liked the story in the 1st book but it did feel like the ending was abrupt. This book feels drawn out, I was expecting a different hurdle to overcome and not the same one stretched out. Initially I understood Isolde’s perspective but in this book, despite developments, I feel she’s doubled down and become incredibly selfish at the expense of everyone else. Before, she was doing it for the sake of her people but now she’s focused on the power that comes with being queen and expecting unconditional loyalty despite treating everyone like crap. I don’t feel like this book was need and a few more chapters could’ve ended this story in book 1 quite nicely.

In terms of performance, I love the female narrator but the male narrator sounds like a teenage boy doing his best to sound like a badass. There are moments where you can tell he’s using his normal speaking voice but then promptly returns to this weird voice impression that completely takes me out of the story.

Boring

I can honestly say that I have never not finished an audiobook with only 44 minutes to go, but I just can’t take it anymore. It’s soooooooo boring!
