I de senere år er der forøvet mange røverier mod banker landet over – mere eller mindre efter de "traditionelle mønstre" – men i denne beretning skildres det første bankrøveri med gidseltagning i Danmark, som skete i Århus den 22. august 1977.
Røveriet blev forholdsvis hurtigt opklaret, hvilket ikke mindst skyldtes det pågældende gidsels gode iagttagelsesevne og dermed følgende glimrende signalement af bankrøveren.
