About this listen
Boarding a transport ship after the Battle of Gettysburg, Colonel Andrew Keane and his 35th Maine regiment are swept into an alternate world. The first human civilization they encounter on this planet resembles medieval Russia, with boyars and priests ruling over the peasants and townspeople. Soon Keane and his regiment learn this world's terrible secret: that cannibalistic hordes of large, fierce Tugars circle the planet and demand tribute - including humans to be devoured. And the hordes will be arriving sooner than expected, with several hundred thousand warriors on horseback.
Using all their 19th century know-how, Keane and his men build a new society with railroads and ironworks, and with skill, cooperation, and courage, the regiment and most of the Russians work together in hopes of defeating the horde.
A great story of survival and bravery in the face of overwhelming odds. First novel in the acclaimed Lost Regiment series by the author of One Second After, One Year After, and Day of Wrath.

As good as the reviews said it was!
If you could give more than five stars, this book would deserve it.
Well worth the buy. Good narration, great story.

Fun summer blockbuster
I've read this series multiple times and was happy to see an audiobook version. Patrick Lawlor does an impressive job with the material. Mostly every character is given a unique voice which really adds to the story telling. The novel itself is a fun read/listen. There's a bit of cheesiness that creeps in here and there and a few missed opportunities for character development (two of the antagonists have sons but are only ever briefly mentioned and could have had a deeper impact on some of the character motivations. The good do far outweigh the negatives. Lots of fun action, great bad guys and as one reviewer put a whole lot of MacGyvering! Overall though I would highly recommend!

Rally Cry The lost Regiment Book#1
"Yes, we'll rally round the flag, boys,
We'll rally once again.
Shouting the battle cry of freedom...."
I first read this book back in the May 1990 I have the nine books in my modest library. I enjoyed it then as again I have enjoyed listening today.
But today it seems to have taken on a different meaning. I look about the event's happen around the world and wonder who we are in this story.
For everyone I say this is a must listen.
