Publisher's Summary

“Lazarre-White's commanding performance is equally riveting. He creates an irresistible listening experience” –AudioFile Magazine

“Superb...Cuts right to the heart of the most important questions of our times.” —Michael Connelly,
#1 New York Times bestselling author

A Black father. A white father. Two murdered sons. A quest for vengeance.

Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid.

The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss.

Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

Ike and Buddy Lee, two ex-cons with little else in common other than a criminal past and a love for their dead sons, band together in their desperate desire for revenge. In their quest to do better for their sons in death than they did in life, hardened men Ike and Buddy Lee will confront their own prejudices about their sons and each other, as they rain down vengeance upon those who hurt their boys.

Provocative and fast-paced, S. A. Cosby's Razorblade Tears is a story of bloody retribution, heartfelt change—and maybe even redemption.

Excellent audio version

A roller coaster thriller. Highly recommended. I haven’t enjoyed a book this much in a long time. Brilliantly read.

loved concept...but too much violence

liked the general story and the characters, but I would have enjoyed it even more if there wasn't as much detailed description of the violence and fighting.

Book of the Year?

Time will tell, but quite possibly the best book of the year! Very highly recommended. I will likely listen again in a few months, after I recover from the emotional ups and downs of the story.

A violent story of reflective redemption

The narrator of this novel was superb. The story keeps you on your seat right to the end. The fictional star is Buddy Lee. He is feisty, he is hilarious, he is dangerous , he is fearless but he is loyal. My only problem with the story is that his epiphany on ascertaining who was behind the murders is based on very obscure details. What he wasn’t was a genius and certainly no Hercule Poirot so arriving at this important conclusion was not credible.
In the end I would recommend this book but be prepared to be unsettled!

Engrossing

This was very violent and very good. Well written and narrated. It enter worlds I am not familiar with and did so with grit and what I can only assume is accuracy. The world it touched upon that I am familiar with rang true and authentic. It’s hard for those who have to come out but we sometimes overlook how hard it is for their loved ones as well. They have their own journey to acceptance. This told one such journey and did it well. My second book that I’ve listened to by Cosby. I’ll need a break but look forward to the third.

Great narration, extremely violent and thin story

Starting with the positive: I loved the narration. That’s about it. The story had so much violence and in such a detailed manner that I had to skip parts of it. The storyline was mildly interesting with lots of cliches.

Interesting story but

While the story line was engaging there was an excessive amount of foul language. Deleting half of it would not have altered the impact of the story and would have allowed for greater consistency of the overall of the writing.
Best book of the year? I don’t think so!
