Good but dead?

It seems like the author gave up on this series. It's too bad cause it's a pretty unique world

MOOOOOOOAAAAAAARRRRR

This one was painfully short. Unless I just refused to sleep until it was over....... I'll go with both.

It keeps getting better

I wasn’t clicking with the series so much in book 1, however I still enjoyed it. I found the writing to be a bit basic and a bit blunt force, however as with most things worth your time, you and the author and the books meet in the middle and you come to appreciate what the author is doing. The world building is good. It’s really like an audible anime, clearly I’m slow to pick that up but I’ve grown to enjoy it. The plans within plans and the “oh, and one more thing”, reveals that make the action fast and frenetic. But you need to know that’s what you are in for and if you do you will be fine.

The author has stated another book in the series is on the way. Should be on audible soon enough I imagine.

If I had critiques, which kinda go against the feel he’s going for here, I’d say it’s too much tell not enough do. I feel like there is probably a better balance there to be had. For my ADHD brain I find the lack of fluidity in big action scenes means my attention wanders sometimes. In the Authors ADHD brain (he revealed this fact on reddit) he is deep into the details and goes ever deeper which is awesome. It’s the two sides of the unusually complex coin that’s is ADHD.

The system he has designed is complex, very flexible and can accommodate any direction he takes the story. I’m excited to see the main character kick ever more butt as the series progresses.

Great story

Loved the story, my only gripe is that 30 second fights take half a dozen chapters to explain.

the struggle

Man did I struggle to finish it. had to skip parts to seemed to never finish. Everything is explained in soooo much details you could take this book as a dungeon master guide. often things are repeated but in different words. fights are completely boring because the rythm is off, because of all the explanations. The only time I actually liked the book was when the actions was somewhere else (not with Michael) then people talked, interacted, there wasn't to much explanations, then back to Michael, and arghhh shoot me! "everything was done in seconds" ya sure after half an hour of telling us witch items are not good for the task and why he didnt use such or such item/ability the history of the item and what they are good for and then tell us what he actually used and why. Lots of : it was the perfect attack, but nothing happened... hope was lost, if he didnt have this ability... He tries to create some suspense, but since he does it so often you already know. This book could have been half the size and would have been much better for it. and this was a re edit? pffffff ya, pretty sure I'm not getting the 4th book. to bad cause I liked the first book, love the hook, the story, but I was way to bored while listening, witch is the opposite of what I want...

It's a little cringe

The author has a very condescending tone and it comes out far too much, making the story a little more wordy than it needs to be. There's also a tendency to repeat the names of monsters or racetypes to an irritating degree. The performance isn't bad, a little too dramatic at some points, but overall not bad. If you like a chunibyo story, you'll enjoy this
