From New York Times bestselling author and veteran CIA officer Jason Matthews, the electrifying modern spy thriller Red Sparrow—also a major motion picture starring Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton!

In contemporary Russia, state intelligence officer Dominika Egorova has been drafted to become a “Sparrow”—a spy trained in the art of seduction to elicit information from their marks. She’s been assigned to Nathaniel Nash, a CIA officer who handles the organization’s most sensitive penetration of Russian intelligence. The two young intelligence officers, trained in their respective spy schools, collide in a charged atmosphere of tradecraft, deception and, inevitably, a forbidden spiral of carnal attraction that threatens their careers and the security of America’s valuable mole in Moscow.

For fans of John le Carré and Ian Fleming and featuring “high-level espionage, pulse-pounding danger, sex, double agents, and double crosses” (Nelson DeMille), Red Sparrow is a timely and electrifying thriller that is impossible to put down.

With the movie coming out I wanted to experience this story before hollywood got its hands on it and I was not disapointed. This author has great knowledge and insight into the world of clandestine CIA operations and the narrator does a good job portraying the different characters while he is not George Guidell I couldn't picture ol' George reading me some of the more "adult" scenes in this book, I think Jeremy Bobb does a great job. This book isn't as action packed as some of the Mitch Rapp or Scott Harvath novels but it certainly never drags on or gets boring. Lots of twists and turns and suspensefull moments right down to the very end. I'm looking forward to the movie and getting started on book 2 of this series. A great listen for anyone interested in the espionage/spy genre.

The story was entertaining and kept me interested, the performance was very good but the recipes annoyed me.
Very strange.

What’s up with the recipes?

Jason Matthews is on to something here, kind of apropos for the times we are in as well. Been waiting for a new SpyMaster to come along, Matthews could be it, highly recommend for fans of the Genre especially, but a solid read for all I believe.

GreatStory, Great Series....

Very cool to hear about inner workings of KGB, spy craft and Russia. However was way too long and had long boring sections. This is the author's first novel I believe and it was full of silly little storytelling mechanisms that became constant bugs, not features. Other reviewers were complaining about each chapter ending with a recipe and they were right! Because every chapter MUST end with a recipe, the author kept awkwardly inserting descriptions of meals into every chapter. After 2 chapters you pick up on the pattern and groan when they take a break from a car chase for smoked trout pate. Over all good book, would be great if half the length.

Very Interesting KGB Stuff - Too Long - Some Annoying Features
