Publisher's Summary
Yoshiro escaped a career of crime with the mafia after they killed his family. For five years, he's dropped out of life. All he wants this Christmas is to be left alone. Then, Ebony and her kids accidentally crash onto his property during a snowstorm. For three years, they've been running from her husband - who's been more monster than man.
The storm picks up. They are forced to remain with Yoshiro until it dies down. And the threat of Ebony's monster remains, lurking within the shadows and threatening her safety. But Yoshiro knows all about death and blood. Her monster doesn't scare him. What has him terrified is that heartwarming feeling sparking between them. The more time Yoshiro spends with Ebony, the more she becomes a Christmas present that he's dying to open. Too bad, she's promised herself that she will never let another man in her or her children's life again.
Yet, sometimes the best Christmas presents come from a bullet. Every so often a good Christmas miracle is a cut-up body to end a nightmare. And even better, at just the right moment two lonely people can find light in their darkened souls and open their hearts to a new romance.
Contains mature themes.

Incredible Book and narration
One of my favourite scenes, roast dinner with the family and Kevin. It was too funny, the description of Kevin’s place of work. I loved it. I love this book.

Great read
This book had a combination of everything. It had horror, [not in the traditional sense but in the sense of the fear that comes from being physically abused and having to witness it], it had survival, it had overcoming of odds, laughter, it had family, it had sadness, it had happiness, it had sexiness and it had romance.
I love that the author didn’t drag on the situation with the ex, and there was a plan, it was executed even though there was risk but then it was done, there was no having to rehash it later on or for him to be popping up all throughout the entire novel. I loved that the title redemption was the actual focus of the book so aside from her getting away from her ex, and then having to deal with the situation, the focus was on healing.
I especially like the realistic aspect of the relationship between her and her mom once she realizes the truth. The author didn’t gloss over it and make it a happily ever after, where in she speaks to her mom she explains that she knows what her mom has done her mom cries, and then all is forgiven that wasn’t the case here and it wouldn’t be the case in real life either. That kind of betrayal needs time to heal regardless of thinking or her mom telling her she thought she was doing it for her best interest.

It’s like the show Dexter meets sex life
Great story, some hard scenes to hear but overall a great story of overcoming one’s fear while still trying to maintain being a good mother and trying not to lose one’s self.
