About this listen

Soon to be a major motion picture starring Allison Williams and Dave Franco.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us comes a novel about family, first love, grief, and betrayal that will touch the hearts of both mothers and daughters.

Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike.

Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn’t want to follow in her mother’s footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn’t have a spontaneous bone in her body.

With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris—Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father, and the family anchor. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara.

While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see. With each passing day, new secrets, resentment, and misunderstandings make mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.

A story of HOPE

I did really enjoy this book. The characters were very interesting and full of depth. The tragedy was some thing I was predicting. I love the ending as it gave you hope that life can throw you a curveball but you can still heal.

Enjoyable story

Although the storyline wasn’t entirely believable, I loved the perspective of the teens in this one. Heartfelt moments with a thoughtful ending.

Narration Ruined the Story!

Colleen Hoover can do no wrong in my eyes but the narrator playing Clara (who I have also encountered in some other series I’ve listened too) is just too painful. I understand she is meant to be a “teen” but it’s just too dramatic and whiney for me to actually enjoy. Reading in book version instead!

Good listen

I enjoyed this book. There were times I just wanted to parent Clara myself, but I felt all the emotions as both Morgan and Clara went through. If you’ve ever lost someone close to you suddenly it may take you through a roller coaster of emotions like it did me. I cried through a few parts. I would recommend anything by Colleen Hoover. She is starting to be one of my go to authors.

meh

ugh story was pretty decent, but took so long to get into it because the beginning was SO slow. The absolutely worst part of this book is Clara - I literally skipped through all of Clara's parts because she was SO whiney, annoying and rude. I get she's a teenager going through trauma but i couldn't STAND how she treated her mom. it was honestly so shocking at times. Finally, spoiler alert, Im so mad CoHo didn't tell us what we're in those letters!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like she missed a huge part of the story by not including those.

Great Book!

As a young mother (23) myself who left the father of my children due to a betrayal I found myself relating to both Morgan and Clara and I absolutely fell in love with Jonah from the very first chapter! This is the second book I've read by colleen and I am very excited to read (listen) to more!
