Good heart, but an invalid and unbalanced solution

Lloyd James is a great audiobook narrator. I like that Viola urges the church to be active and engaged and not just passive consumers. It ought to be Christ centered, face to face, egalitarian, and empowered to use all gifts of the Spirit. I couldn't agree more. But his proposed solution to the problem is to dismantle all of our church leadership structures and get rid of paid clergy. This proposal misinterprets much of the New Testaments writings, dismisses how the early church functioned and developed, is naive to the many healthy church leadership structures and denominations out there, and quite frankly is an insult to the many men and women gifted and called who dedicate their lives to serve their churches as pastors
