Rekindled was a very enjoyable listen. The story itself is excellent, with a strong plot and great characters. If I’m not mistaken, this was Tamera Alexander’s first novel, and it was interesting to see how much her writing has grown over the years. She is a wonderful author now, and you can definitely see the development of her craft.

My main issue with this book was the way Larson’s love for Kathryn was portrayed. It felt overstated at times. Nearly every thought he had about her seemed to focus on her beauty, and his love for her. It made Kathryn too perfect, which made her feel a little less human to me. That said, I appreciated how Larson’s growing relationship with God influenced the changes in his life, particularly in how he dealt with his insecurities and his tendency to judge others.

As for the narration, I wasn’t exactly looking forward to it because Barbara McCullough and I have had a complicated relationship. I am apparently becoming that old lady who complains about sound quality and recording issues. Narrators are incredibly important to me because sound affects my enjoyment more than most people realize.

To my surprise, this older recording was actually quite good. There were a few moments when I wasn’t entirely sure who was speaking, but overall I enjoyed the performance. In fairness to Barbara McCullough, some of my frustrations may have had more to do with poor production and audio quality control than with the narration itself. This recording was much cleaner and made for a far better listening experience.

Overall, a solid story even if the romance occasionally leaned a little too heavily on the heroine’s perfection.
