Publisher's Summary

We aren't born again to stay the way we are. But how many times have we looked around us in dismay at the lack of spiritual maturity in fellow believers?

It is evident in the rising rate of divorces among Christian couples. We find it in the high percentages of Christians, even pastors, who regularly view pornography. And we face it each time a well-known leader in the Christian community is found in sexual sin or handling finances dishonestly. Perhaps you have struggled with your own character issues for years, even decades, to little avail. That's good news. You can experience significant growth in your Christian walk, shed sinful habits, and increasing take on the character of Christ.

In Renovation of the Heart, best-selling author Dallas Willard calls it "the transformation of the spirit"- a divine process that "brings every element in our being, working from inside out, into harmony with the will of God or the kingdom of God." In the transformation of our spirits, we become apprentices of Jesus Christ.

Where the real work is

This is a serious, sobering examination of where we should be focused. As tempting as it is to divide the world into Good Guys and Bad Guys, casting ourselves as Good Guys and placing all the decrepitude out there, over there, that’s too simplistic and untrue.

This book makes a persuasive case that at the core of what’s wrong with the world is us, our ruined, unrenovated hearts, and it shows us a way to get our hearts unruined and renovated.

It can be hard-slogging at times as the concepts are so profound but it is well worth the effort. My eyes were opened and my mind was changed many times along the way. This has to be foundational reading for anyone seriously interested in spiritual formation.

Solid teaching

I really like how Willard can tell it straight but in a loving way. His writing is clear, concise, and pointed at Christ.

encouraging. dense and yet simple.

amazing message. encouraging. dense. deep thoughts and ideas, but at the same time a return to the truth of Jesus' message. how can we dig through the baggage of our false beliefs and systems and get down to the freedom in Christ?

extremely good

I had to take it in chunks rather than listening for big stretches but this was an incredibly solid look at changing for a better walk with God. I look forward to listening again!
