About this listen
The city has become a warzone. Charlie and her companions must survive the gangs and corrupt government agents that are out to stake their claims on the nation’s riches. Should she try and flee to the countryside, with each neighborhood a potential trap and every house a threat? Or should she stay and fight the building tyranny?
Dwindling food supplies and the daily risk of capture are taking their toll. Mistakes are fatal, and the exhaustion that comes with living under constant danger is wearing them down.
Betrayal, pain, and death are the norm. Who can they turn to when everyone is the enemy? Charlie’s world is about to change, and decisions that she and the others make will lead to life or condemn them to a quick and merciless death.

Story
The news is full of disturbing events today. There's war and rumors of war. There's the false recovery of the economy. Faith in the US economy is extremely low. Foreign banks have either slowed their purchases of Treasury Bonds or, in a few cases, begun unloading them. We have a current election that is rife with corruption, extreme partisanship, and outright fraud. It would appear the left in the country is ready to do about anything to see their candidate elected.

If society fell apart, could your family survive? Jim Powell thought he was ready. He was a regular guy who travelled a lot for work and hated every second he was away from his young family. But when ISIS operatives unleashed a coordinated attack on America’s infrastructure, his entire world shattered. The electrical grid collapsed, communication networks were damaged, critical bridges and dams were destroyed, and major fuel refineries have gone up in massive fiery clouds.

Story
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Great Series
I'm enjoying this series. My only complaint is that it would have been nice to have added a female narrator since some of the main characters were female.

Good next book.
This one continued the saga well. Not quite as dark as the first...slightly more mindlessly enjoyable while still being highly educational and keeping me dialed in chapter after chapter. .

Great listen, narration change not so great
I'd have preferred Bronson...although I find his narration to be superior in every single audio book I've listened to with him narrating. All around great job by everyone involved, and Duke is a great narrator...I just don't like the switch part way through the series.

need to keep the mistakes to a minimum!
over all a pretty good story pretty close to as good as the going home series! my only complaint is the number of mistakes! mostly getting characters names wrong making the story at times hard to follow! it was the same in book one, maybe even worse! still I will be getting the next book just hope they work on keeping the mistakes to a minimum!🍻
