On Chapter 1 and like it already!

I've been aware for years how I'll do anything to avoid resting. And my way hasn't been working. Trying to be productive makes me miserable and I end up spending a lot of time in procrastination, "shoulding myself" to do something and without joy or ease. I still succumb to distorted messages I received in childhood - that I should be productive, task oriented through the day, check things off my list and sleep only at night. Joy, pleasure and rest were foreign in our family. While I developed a strong lazy part that rebelled against this, I don't allow myself to enjoy it because the belief is I "should be productive". I've been feeling powerless to change this on my own and in comes an audible recommendation for this book. I read and enjoyed her previous book and the title told me this is the medicine I've been needing.

So already in the introduction, the author is teaching me the value of rest and making it clear why my current way is not working. A lightbulb moment already - apparently some people have a healthy relationship with rest - they see the signs that a break is needed and they pay attention! When they feel fatigued, they lay down. When they feel listless or their motivation waning, they rest. When they feel disagreeable, they journal about their feelings. These are all feelings I experience regularly and I thought it was because I wasn't being productive enough!! Turns out the opposite is true. That I'm needing rest. So I'm eager to have my mind blown some more and to gradually allow myself to experiment with her ideas.

I've never written a review so early but as there were no previous reviews and I see how this could greatly impact my life, I wanted to share for others who struggle with a similar problem.
