About this listen
The discovery of human remains unearths another nightmare from Sheriff Bree Taggert’s past in a bone-chilling thriller by #1 Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh.
Twenty-seven years ago, Sheriff Bree Taggert’s father killed her mother, then himself. Now Bree and her younger brother, Adam, find human bones on the grounds of their abandoned family farm. The remains are those of a man and a woman, both murdered in the same horrible way.
When the investigation determines the murders occurred thirty years ago, Bree’s dead father becomes a suspect, forcing Bree to revisit the brutal night she’s spent most of her life trying to forget. The only other suspect is an unlikely squatter on the Taggert farm who claims to know secrets about Bree’s past. When he mysteriously disappears and Bree’s niece is kidnapped, the cold case heats up.
Bree has stoked the rage of a murderer who’ll do anything to keep his identity - and motives - a secret. To protect everyone she loves, Bree must confront a killer.

“The kidnapping of Bree’s eight-year-old niece raises the stakes, and the romantic attraction between Bree and Matt adds spice to the fast-paced plot. Readers will cheer Bree every step of the way.”—Publishers Weekly
“Leigh’s experienced writing is apparent in her ability to create a plot that enthralls, characters we care about, and authentic dialogue. While each book works extremely well as a stand-alone mystery, you will want to know more.”—Bookreporter

It was ok.
Narrator was a bit choppy/forced, and I had to listen at 1.1 speed for the first bit because she read so deliberately.
The story was ok. Overall 3.75.

#1 BREE TAGGERT STAN
I love these books!! This is my favourite entry in the series so far. Watching the characters evolve and develop over time has been incredible and rewarding - they feel so real. Compelling twists and turns! Excellent narration as always, always on the edge of my seat. I want to thank Audible for having the first book be an Editors Pick because I don’t think I would have come across this series on my own!

Most enjoyable!
The repetitive narrative is necessary for a new comers understanding. I loved it all very much.

A lot of Bree Taggert
The story focused a lot on the main character’s backstory and abuse, way more so than the previous in the series. I found it repetitive, constant reminders about her childhood traumas, it was very character-focused but I didn’t learn anything new about her, she stayed flat and though she has an interesting past she still seemed boring, if that makes sense. The plot was interesting enough though.
