What the critics say

"Yo ho ho? get ready for a ripping good yarn.... This nonstop action adventure has all the elements of a perfect summertime thriller - pirate treasure of unimaginable worth, 300-year-old cryptograms written in invisible ink, a legendary curse, and a driven captain who will stop at nothing to reach his goal. The red-hot authors of Reliquary score another big winner." ( Library Journal)

adventure from start to finish

A real treasure hunt in the vein of Indiana Jones with all the technological reality to keep it grounded. clearly based on the myth of oak island this story of history, grudge, obsession and nostalgia provides a narrative of secrets, loss, greed and desperation as the hidden promise of billions lure countless people though the ages to their doom. can modern technology defeat a long dead architect who's whole design was revenge? will greed and paranoia overwhelme good sence? In the quest for money, how much money can you lose. can obsession on the past ever give you a future? that's the story this book offers. So hop in. tighten your life jacket and head for the fog. not everyone is coming back.

Great adventure!

I love Preston & Child's books! I always begin wondering if there is any Supernatural situation happening or if there's going to be a logical explanation. I love that and I'm not going to spoil this one for you.
Who doesn't like hunting for pirate treasure? From the safety of your own space of course. I am fairly easy to please so I'm not going to get into detail about any of the technical aspects of this story because it doesn't matter to me. It's a work of fiction and fantasy and we can just enjoy it and accept it without questioning too much.
The narrator did an amazing job, he changed his vocal inflections depending who was speaking and there was no trouble following the characters at all. He even pulled off the voice of a young French lady. I thought that was beautiful and it was very perfectly done. All in all, I highly recommend the story.

A masterful performance of a fair novel

The story itself was enjoyable, but quite predictable. I put audiobook aside for a while, less than halfway through it, before reurning to finish it, because a minor twist aside, I pretty much knew how it was going to end. Still, a satisfying audiobook, brought to life with a brilliant reading by Scott Brick.
